Chapter 7

The nurse could do nothing but sigh deeply. “I don’t know. Someone picked her up this morning.”

Soon after, Jonah, frantic, was ready to leave, but a pair of traffic police approached him. “Mr. Sawyer, you are suspected of running multiple red lights and violating traffic laws. We kindly

ask that you come with us.”

As a result of running red lights and driving under the influence, Jonah was taken into custody.

When I received the news, I was enjoying a fruit platter at a luxurious maternity wellness center.

My best friend, Joyce Palmer, looked at my sutures and felt so heartbroken that her eyes reddened. “What’s your plan now? Jonah and Lucy’s reputations have gone down the drain.”

“A divorce, of course. I wouldn’t want to spend the rest of my life entangled with that man.”

“With the matter’s escalation, I don’t think he’ll agree to the divorce.”

I placed the fork down. “He will.”

“But the video you posted online only hurt you more than anyone else. Don’t you regret it?”

Even then, Joyce didn’t dare watch the video.

Although I was at a luxurious maternity wellness center, those around me cast me curious, revolted, and contemptuous gazes.

I shook my head. “Women shouldn’t be ashamed for being assaulted. I did nothing wrong and, therefore, shouldn’t care about what others think.”

Once I had recovered slightly, I headed to the police station and met Jonah, with a face covered in stubble, in the detention room.

“Chelsea, I was wrong. Could you please forgive me?”

He immediately knelt before me, filled with remorse, his devotion resembling that of a fervent believer.

“You manipulated me into bearing your and Lucy’s child and even took those photos. Did you think a few words from you could resolve the trauma you’ve inflicted on me?”

His cuffed hands held onto mine. “I’ll do anything as long as you forgive me, Chelsea.”

I glanced down at Jonah’s face before pulling a stack of documents from my bag. “I want you to transfer all your assets into my name.”

Without second thoughts, he nodded. “Okay, I promise you.”

I placed the documents in front of him and handed him the pen, watching closely as he signed his name.

After he finished, I flipped to the next page. He hesitated just slightly and was about to read the text when I gently took hold of his hand.

“I was pregnant for eight months. How did you think I felt when I saw the baby getting extracted out of me? I was just feeling his heartbeat in the morning, but by night, he was out of me.” “That’s enough, Chelsea. I’m so sorry for what I’ve done to you. I promise I’ll make it up to you once I’m out.”

With that, Jonah skipped reading the content and signed the document.

I kept the signed papers in my bag and stood up, glancing down at him. “Once you’ve lost everything, you’ll finally see who wanted to see you thrive and who was just waiting for you to fall.” He looked at me, confused. Without another word, I turned around and left the room.

“Wait for me, Chelsea. Once I’m out, we’ll start a new life!”

I strode out of the station without stopping once. “There won’t be a ‘we‘

anymore.”

I pulled the documents from my bag and slid out the divorce agreement tucked in the middle. Then, I called my lawyer. “Process the divorce as soon as possible.”
