Benjamin turned to Margot, his voice cold. “We adopted you from the orphanage and treated you as our own daughter. How could you do such a thing with your brother? You have brought disgrace to our family!” 

“I’ll bring you to the hospital to have your baby aborted tomorrow and then send you abroad. You’re not allowed to come back for ten years!” 

Margot immediately knelt down and crawled forward two steps, apologizing repeatedly. 

“Dad! Please! The child is innocent, can you please let me give birth to him?” 

“I have liked Cornell since I was young, but I know the Leanders won’t agree with us being together… this is my baby with him and he is also the eldest grandson of the Leanders. Can you let me give birth to him?” 

Tiffany couldn’t help herself and whispered to her husband. “Why not, just let them be together? I have raised Margot and I know her background well. After all, she is an adopted daughter and has no blood relationship with Cornell. You don’t need to separate them.” 

Benjamin’s expression softened a bit and he poked Cornell on the ground with his stick, saying, “What about you?” 

Cornell struggled to lift his head, with blood on the corners of his mouth. “I only consider Margot as my sister.” 

“Beast!” Benjamin’s eyes were red and the stick kept falling on his back. “As a sister? Then how the hell did you get your hands on her! Are you short of women?” 

“I don’t need your approval and concern. I’ll go get the certificate tomorrow and I’ll forget the wedding. The Leanders can’t afford to lose this person!” 

Margot grabbed Cornell’s hand with tears in her eyes. “Cornell, we can finally be together.” 

“Get lost!” He used all his strength to push her away. “Dad, I’ve told you before, I only treat her as my sister and the only person I’m going to marry is Hailey.” 

“If you insist on me marrying Margot, then kill me today!” 

Margot trembled all over and said, “That night, didn’t you ask me to follow you?” 

“You were the one who seduced me that night!” Cornell suddenly snapped. “If you hadn’t taken off your clothes and came close to me, how could I have….” 

“Margot, it’s all your fault, otherwise how could Hailey leave me.” 

“You bastard!” 

Benjamin picked up the stick and hit his son on the head. 

Until Cornell vomited blood and collapsed to the ground and Margot cried until she fainted. 

Amidst the sound of the ambulance siren, medical staff carried out two stretchers. Cornell had three broken ribs and Margot was wearing an oxygen mask.

Just as I stepped out of the office building, the cold wind of the winter night hit me in the face. 

Cornell was leaning against the door smoking when he saw me coming out. He immediately extinguished his cigarette butt and walked briskly towards me. 

“Hailey!” His hoarse voice greeted me. 

Before I could react, he pulled me in his arms. 

“Hailey, I was wrong, I was wrong, please forgive me, okay? 

His arms were so tight, as if he wanted to squeeze me. “I’ve been thinking about you every day for the past month. I can’t take it anymore.” 

I could feel his tears soaking my shoulders. 

This man, who used to be calm and self restrained, was now holding me and crying like a lost child. 

“I can’t live without you, Hailey! For you, I endured my father’s rules and went to find you as soon as I was discharged from the hospital. But your family asked the security guards to drive me away, so I can only come here to see you….” 

His tears was falling, but my heart was calm. 

“I know I was wrong, I really know I was wrong,” he said as he held my face, his voice trembling, “I won’t marry Margot, she seduced me and I don’t want the child anymore.” 

At the end, he said in the most gentle tone, “Hailey, how about you divorce that man? Let’s start over.”
