Chapter 21
The man’s face was cold as ice–almost frightening as he seized Giselle’s hand and led her out of the hospital room.
As they left, Giselle twisted around to glance back at Cynthia, her eyes brimming with open challenge.!!
Night fell.
The hospital room, now empty except for Cynthia, was utterly still. She gazed out at the hazy moonlight, her mind adrift
That’s when Juliet called.
“Are you feeling any better?”
Cynthia paused, surprised. She hadn’t told her sister about being hospitalized. It must have been Dominic who tipped her off. Cynthia’s grip on her phone tightened.
“It doesn’t hurt as much now she replied.
But the shame stung more than any injury.
Juliet let out a quiet “Mm,” her tone as cool and restrained as ever, betraying no emotion.
“I heard from Jocelyn that you plan to sell your shares in VistaSphere Group soon. Dominic’s opened a branch in Cloudcrest City, and he’s Interested in acquiring VistaSphere as a springboard for his new office.“8
A springboard. That meant VistaSphere would eventually be swallowed up by Holloway Enterprises‘ new branch–erased, gone
Cynthia had devoted seven years of her life to VistaSphere. The thought of letting it go gave her pause.8
Juliet didn’t push. She simply added, “Dominic will be in Cloudcrest City for the next two weeks. If you make up your mind, contact him directly. He’s always generous–don’t be afraid to raise your asking price.”
With that, Juliet hung up. She didn’t linger for further conversation.
Cynthia sat in silence, phone in hand.
Benedict, who hadn’t reached out all afternoon, finally messaged her.
[Working late at the office.]z
The same man who used to panic over the slightest scratch on her hand now sent nothing but a cold, sterile text–no warmth, no concern.&
Cynthia stared at the screen, then set the phone aside without replying.
Giselle had posted another update, once again accompanied by a photo.
The caption read: [Baby’s dad said he wants to hear the baby’s heartbeat, I never thought he’d be more excited for this child than I am.JX
The comments were a storm of criticism.
Cynthia’s gaze landed on the photo-on the man’s face, blurred for privacy, pressed against Giselle’s stomach. In the corner, she recognized his wrist, and on it, the watch she’d given him for their seven–year anniversary- gift symbolizing how she treasured every moment they’d shared.
Cynthia felt a twinge of regret. She should’ve given him a clock instead, something to mark an end rather than commemorate lost time.X
She’d barely set down her phone when a message from an unknown number came in.
[Thank you, Cynthia, for letting go. I truly adore it.]
Attached was a photo: a hand wearing a jade bracelet.”
Cynthia didn’t need to guess. This was Giselle.!!
A cold smile touched her lips as she replied:
[You really think bragging about chewing a piece of gum í spat out makes you clever? Especially when all you can do is blow bubbles with it? Doesn’t that just make you look ridiculous?)
Giselle fired back instantly.
[Cynthia, why pretend? If I can take the jade bracelet from you, I can take anything else I want.]
Anything else?..
Benedict?t
Was he even worth calling a “thing? More like trash sho’d already tossed out
Cynthia scrolled through her photos and found the picture of the shattered jade bracelet. She sent it over
(Did Benedict not tell you? The one he gave you is a fake.
This time, silence.
Cynthia looked out the window. The sky was dark and heavy, as if a storm was gathering
She and Benedict–there was no avoiding the coming confrontation now!
