Chapter 40
On the other end of the line, there was a gasp of surprise before a reply came, laced with delight.
“Is that true? That rascal Benedict never breathed a word about it! Don’t worry, dear. I’ll come into of you.“2
Giselle smiled, her lips curving slyly. “Thank you, Mrs. Carter. I’ll be waiting.”

Let Cynthia drag Benedict back home all she wanted–what did it matter? As long as Benedict’s mother stood on her side, and with child on the way, it was only a matter of time before Cynthia and Benedict went their separate ways.1

After Benedict left, Cynthia made herself a simple dinner. Once she’d eaten, she lounged on the wicker chair, scrolling aimlessly through her phone.
Suddenly, a rarely used app pinged with a new notification.
[PREGNANT, so no sex for now. My boyfriend has to go to his fiancée for his needs‘–ugh, it’s annoying, but I guess I have to be the bigger person]
Cynthia saw the all–too–familiar username and let out a cold, humorless laugh. She didn’t bother opening the post or the comment section. She could already imagine the flood of insults underneath S
Sometimes, even she had to admit–Giselle had a remarkably thick skin.
Cynthia put her phone away and went back inside. Most of her things from Cloudcrest City were already packed up and shipped to the Capital. The little suburban house, once cluttered with her belongings, now felt hollow and cold.
She stood in the empty room, a pang of loneliness tugging at her heart
But the feeling didn’t linger long. Tomorrow, she had a meeting with the CEO of Novalith Technologies to discuss a partnership, and she needed a clear mind for that

wift to her sister?
The Novalith Technologies contract–that would be her gift to VistaSphere Group’s success hadn’t come from nowhere. Their rise was built on the long–term support of business partners like these. Benedict had spent the last few years surrounded by sycophants, growing more arrogant by the day. He probably assumed that with Vista Sphere’s current status, partners like Novalith Technologies should be begging for a chance to work with him. That must be why he deliberately left Novalith hanging this time.
When Novalith’s director reached out to her, there was no open criticism of Benedict, but the underlying dissatisfaction was clear enough!
Cynthia was already mapping out her next steps for when she returned to the Capital. Lost in thought, she drifted off to sleep. She didn’t know how much time had passed when the mattress dipped beside her. An arm slid around her waist.!
Jolted awake, Cynthia’s eyes flew open to find Benedict’s familiar face staring back at her
“Did I wake you?”
Seeing her awake, Benedict tightened his grip and pulled her in close, his low voice tinged with something dark and hungry.
The sweet, cloying scent of women’s perfume clung to him, making Cynthia’s stomach turn.
Shed forgotten he still had a key from her grandmother’s side. Clearly, she needed to change all the locks tomorrow! Benedict leaned down, ready to kiss her, but Cynthia immediately turned her face away!
His eyes darkened at the rejection, imitation simmering beneath the surface as he edged closer.
