Cancelled Wedding - Chapter (43)
Ch. Called Off the Wedding 43 Called Off the Wedding 43
Chapter 43
Benedict stood frozen, his face rigid and ashen. He locked eyes with Cynthia, frustration simmering just beneath the surface. Cynthia met his gaze with a faint, unflinching smile, not the slightest hint of retreat in her eyes.
“If you’re really that hungry, you could always eat out. There are plenty of breakfast places nearby with far more variety than what I can offer.”
Benedict could hardly miss the sarcasm in her voice.
His expression darkened instantly.
“We’ve been together for years, and you still don’t trust me with something this trivial?“}
Cynthia looked up at him.
His face was cold, utterly devoid of guilt, as if every word she spoke was a personal insult, an accusation against his character.}
She almost wanted to applaud his brazen righteousness.
“I already fired the person and explained everything to you. How long are you going to keep this up?“}
Her tone was icy, her eyes scrutinizing him as though she were cross–examining a criminal. That was enough to finally push Benedict over the edge.
But Cynthia wasn’t moved by his anger–in fact, the mockery in her eyes deepened. She watched him as if she were merely an audience member, amused by his performance.§
“Benedict, do you really take me for a fool?”
A flicker of panic flashed through Benedict’s eyes, though he masked it quickly, forcing his features back into a scowl.
Cynthia found it almost funny.
Seven years together had made her an expert in reading his every twitch and gesture.
He thought he was hiding his feelings, but to her, he was an open book.
Benedict, catching the ridicule in her gaze, flushed with humiliation and anger.
“You-
He barely got the word out before her phone rang, cutting him off.”
Cynthia glanced at the phone beside her, arching an eyebrow when she saw the caller ID–Novalith Technologies‘ CEO.§
She reached for the phone, but Benedict snatched it up first.
He shot her a hard look, swiped to answer, and switched the call to speaker.}
A man’s voice came through: “Miss Tremaine, I’ve thought over what we discussed yesterday. Let’s set up a time to sign the contract.”
Benedict’s brow furrowed as he stared at Cynthia, clearly confused.>
Her hand clenched at her side, but she kept her composure as she stepped forward, took the phone from him, and answered smoothly.
That sounds good, Mr. Fletcher. Let’s stick with the terms we discussed before. We can go over the other details when I arrive.”
“Perfect, Mr. Fletcher replied.
After a few polite pleasantries, Cynthia ended the call.
Benedict stood beside her, his expression thunderous.

“I’ll handle company business. You’re not even involved anymore–you don’t know what the market needs. Reaching out to Hugo Fletcher behind my back? You’re just sabotaging my plans.“>
That was exactly what she intended.
She was hoping to poach every last one of VistaSphere Group’s partners before he realized what hit him, then set up her own company as soon as she returned to the city.
Too bad most of the contracts hadn’t expired yet.”
I may have left the company, but I still own fifty–one percent of VistaSphere Group. Don’t forget–I’m the majority shareholder. I have the right to make any decision I want.”
Cynthia pocketed her phone and, without sparing Benedict another glance, began clearing the dishes and headed to the kitchen.
Benedict’s chest heaved with frustration as he tugged at his collar,
His own phone rang just then–a sugary love song that, in that moment, grated on his nerves.

He shot a cold look at Cynthia, who was in the kitchen, washing dishes, then answered the call.
“Speak.”
His tone was icy, prompting a nervous pause on the other end before the caller finally replied, choosing their words with care.
