Chapter 46
“Auntie, please don’t be upset. Benedict is just looking out for the company’s best interests. VistaSphere Group was founded by both Cynthia and Benedict–if they split up, it would definitely affect the company.”
“And if Cynthia and Benedict break up, she’ll take a huge chunk of money with her. The business could run into serious trouble then.”}]
Giselle’s words calmed Lois down a little.
“But hasn’t she already left the company? Isn’t she just at home now?” Lois thought Cynthia’s departure meant Vista Sphere Group belonged to Benedict alone.
Giselle patiently explained the pros and cons, laying out how the assets would be split under the law. Lois’s face turned a dark shade of
anger.
“She’s just a woman who got lucky because of our Benedict. He’s the one managing everything there–what right does she have to walk away with so much?“}
Giselle gave a small, helpless smile. “That’s just how the law works, Auntie. Unless she’s made some huge mistake that actually hurt the company, Benedict doesn’t have any way to keep her from getting her share.”
Lois said nothing, her face twisted with frustration.
Giselle glanced over at her, her tone turning just a bit gossipy. “I heard about a couple–during the divorce, the husband’s lawyer dug up evidence of the wife cheating. They leaked it, and in the end, the wife backed down and gave up her claim to the assets.“}
Lois frowned. “Cynthia would never betray Benedict.”
She didn’t like Cynthia much, but she knew how Cynthia felt about relationships. Cynthia would never do anything to hurt Benedict.}
A flash of annoyance crossed Giselle’s eyes, but she kept her tone light. “I read later that the whole thing was a setup. The husband manufactured the evidence just to force her out with nothing–just trying to create a scandal.“}
Lois fell silent, deep in thought.
Giselle gave a gentle, obedient smile. “Auntie, I’m already grateful that Benedict has agreed to let me have his child. But with Cynthia still around, I don’t think I’ll ever get to hear the baby call you ‘Grandma.”
“Benedict can’t leave Cynthia for the sake of the company. So the baby and I will just have to make do. Please, don’t be angry, and don’t let this cause any hard feelings between you and Benedict.”
Lois nodded absently, still lost in her thoughts.
Satisfied, Giselle picked up the breakfast she’d made for Benedict and left the kitchen.
Benedict sat down at the table and stared at the bland, watery noodles in front of him. His appetite vanished. The egg noodles Cynthia used to make in the morning were always colorful and fragrant, and even though he hadn’t tasted them today, their scent seemed to linger in the air.D
He forced down a few mouthfuls, then went back to his room and lay down.
When Lois brought him his medicine and a glass of water, Benedict was irritably scrolling through his old messages with Cynthia phone.

For the past two weeks, he’d been the only one reaching out–she hadn’t replied to a single message. Annoyed, Benedict swallowed his medicine and lay back. As Lois was about to leave, he called out to her.
‘Mom, Cynthia and I are about to have our wedding. You’re my mother–you have to do something for us. When you have time, take Cynthia to the jeweler’s and help her pick out the wedding jewelry.“”
He pulled a card from his wallet and handed it to Lois. “Cynthia’s been upset with me for a while now. See if you can help smooth things
Over
He knew that ever since Cynthia’s mother passed away, she’d longed for a mother’s love. Cynthia even felt guilty that she couldn’t get along with his mom. Maybe if Lois made the effort, Cynthia would finally stop holding a grudge against him.
