Ch. Ch 16 Don’t come back Ch 16

His name had originally been on the participant list. 

He had decided to withdraw because he couldn’t bear to leave Ember. 

With their parents gone, he worried Ryker wouldn’t take proper care of his little Ember. 

As Ember had said, someone in this world had to make sacrifices, just like their parents had. 

So he had made the difficult decision. 

But as the departure date approached, he couldn’t overcome his personal attachments, couldn’t find the strength to leave. 

It wasn’t because of Willow–how could it possibly be because of Willow? 

Ember actually thought he’d done it for Willow? 

Was that why she had chosen to take his place? 

How could that be possible? How could she do this… 

Large drops of cold sweat fell from his forehead.

His body felt as if it were burning on a pyre while simultaneously plunging into an icy abyss. 

Axel gasped for air, still feeling like he was rapidly suffocating. 

Impossible, impossible… 

Professor Zhang’s confused voice continued: “Axel, you can’t possibly not know. 

“Ember even made a final call to you before entering the research 

institute.”
