Ch. Ch 27 Don’t come back Ch 27

I left the research institute seventeen years later. 

The drug development had been a complete success, and the silver poisoning antidote for werewolves was approved to be 

marketed at affordable prices. 

I attended the press conference with my fellow researchers and mentors. 

Many silver poisoning patients and their families spontaneously came to the venue, moved to tears as they expressed their 

gratitude. 

That day happened to be the Full Moon Festival, the anniversary of my parents‘ sacrifice in the line of duty. 

Time seemed to have rewritten their ending. 

I suddenly remembered that night many years ago when my mother held me gently and said: 

“If we make progress a little faster, those patients could afford the medicine before the New Year and have a better holiday.” 

Back then, I understood little about many things. 

I couldn’t comprehend the burning passion and mist in my mother’s eyes. 

She said softly: “In this world, too many patients choose to give up their lives because of poverty and expensive drugs. 

“For every dollar the price drops, perhaps one more patient might find hope to live on.” 

“Ember, this is your father’s and my hope as well.” 

They departed abruptly with their wish unfulfilled. 

Now, I had finally completed the final chapter for them. 

Perhaps in the afterlife, they could finally rest in peace. 

I accepted flowers from patients and interviews from reporters who flocked around me. 

Amidst the crowd, my gaze suddenly collided with a familiar pair of eyes. 

Across the surging mass of people, I unexpectedly saw Axel and Ryker in the distance, 

Twelve years without seeing them, and they had begun to age, just like me. 

They were both over forty now. 

Fine lines had appeared around Ryker’s eyes, his face weathered and tired. 

And Axel, though only forty–two, already had white hair at his temples.
