Ch. Ch 30 Don’t come back Ch 30

His voice held unmistakable humility and anxiety.

After hesitating for a moment, I reached out and accepted it.

Axel’s eyes brightened, and he quickly offered me the bouquet he was holding:

“After all this time, we… we never got to congratulate you.”

I didn’t know what he was referring to.

Was it my successful completion of the ten–year drug research, my marriage, or my daughter? 1

But I didn’t ask. I simply took the flowers and replied politely but distantly: “Thank you.”

Ryker still held a gift bag in his hands.

With trembling fingers, he pulled out a beautiful Moon Goddess dress.

As he handed it to me, he couldn’t meet my eyes: “I’m sorry. We’ve… we’ve owed you this for a long time.”

In a flash of memory, I recalled Ryker sitting by the window late at night in a dimly lit bedroom, counting coins to save money for

my Moon Goddess dress.

It was because I had seen a classmate showing off the dress her mother had bought her.

My mother never had time to pay attention to my wishes, and Axel was too carefree to notice such details.

So Ryker had secretly worked odd jobs to save money.

For me,

it had never been just a dress.

And now, it wasn’t just a dress that could make up for everything.

But I smiled and didn’t refuse this either.

By the end, my arms were full.

After they finally left, I returned to the house. At the front door, I bent down and placed everything they had given me outside.

My brothers had never given me so many gifts at once before.

But this time, I didn’t want them.

As I set the items down, I happened to glance back.

I saw Axel and Ryker, who had only walked a short distance, stop in their tracks and look back toward me. 1

They saw the gifts abandoned on the ground, and with identical expressions of grief and distress, they quickly averted their gaze.

That night, I received a call from the hospital.

I was informed that Axel was dying and asked if I wanted to see him one last time.
