Chapter 12
As they plunged into the sea to escape, one of the men collided with a shark–its jagged teeth sinking deep before he could react. His desperate screams pierced the air until a fishing boat hauled him aboard, but not before the predator claimed his leg.
A day and night passed in unconsciousness. When he finally stirred, his father’s men surrounded him.
The lure of money was nearly irresistible. The words teetered on his tongue, almost spilling out.

The man hesitated–until another card followed. “Twenty million. Talk.” Greed ignited in his eyes. He babbled every detail.
By dusk, my brother had tracked down each accomplice. All pointed to Julienne’s photo.
Years in the business world had honed his skepticism. For a fleeting moment, he wondered if I’d paid them to lie.
Then his phone rang.
“Mr. Montclair, your device is repaired. The recording inside… you’ll want to hear this yourself.”
