The next morning, my parents, who had been absent since I fell ill.
Came to visit me, carrying a beautiful cake.
They cried and admitted their mistakes to Christian.
They begged him, for my sake, to spare the Davies family.
They wanted to hold a grand birthday celebration for me, to make up for 25 years of
neglect.
But Christian looked at the large, three-tiered cake.
He scoffed:
“Lily is allergic to mangoes. As her parents, didn’t you know that?”
Mom and Dad looked embarrassed.
Christian had them thrown out:
“Get out. Go get yourselves reformed inside. Next life, don’t be parents and ruin children.”
