Goodbye Was Just the Beginning - Chapter 15

All Jonathan could see then was the last look Ruth gave him before she left. She was unwavering and devoid of emotion. It was as though he was merely an unimportant stranger who was only passing by in her life.

Jonathan shot to his feet. Yet, before he could leave, Evelyn barged in through the door.

“Jon.”

Evelyn had a reserved and soft expression like always. She always had stunning doe eyes that looked like she could cry at any moment. So, she would often come across as the innocent victim.

“Why are you drinking so much? You’re going to complain about having a headache again tomorrow.” She approached to hold Jonathan’s arm while speaking with a gentle, soothing tone.

Jonathan was about to speak when he caught a whiff of a familiar perfume scent again. His head skipped a beat. He immediately stopped himself from shoving Evelyn’s hands off him.

“Why do you smell so nice?”

His voice softened so abruptly that it left Evelyn bashful and elated.

“Is it still the same perfume brand as before?” Jonathan asked.

The smile on Evelyn’s face stiffened, but she still nodded, “Yeah, it’s the same.”

Although Evelyn was smiling, an indescribable rage simmered deep within her. That was because she had taken the perfume from Ruth’s dressing room.

She initially wanted to destroy everything, not caring that they were branded and unopened perfumes.

However, Jonathan seemed to only like this scent. She had worn other perfumes around him later on, but he always disliked them. So, she could only force herself to continue to wear this scent.

“I’m happy you like it. If you want, I’ll wear this perfume every day from now on.” Evelyn raised her head to meet Jonathan. Her pretty eyes charmingly glistened under the light.

Yet, Jonathan’s expression shifted out of the blue. He then shoved her aside hard.

“Jon?” Evelyn murmured, not understanding why he did that.

Even Jonathan’s friends were bewildered.

“Evelyn Staunton.” Jonathan stared emotionlessly at her. Even his tone came off indifferent. That said, anyone could tell he was absolutely livid.

“What is up with you, Jon.” –Evelyn tried to hug Jonathan’s arm again, but the latter immediately slapped her.

“Jonathan! Jon, did you just hit me?” Evelyn cupped her cheek as tears welled in her eyes from being wronged.

Despite her reaction, Jonathan only snorted. “Aren’t you allergic to peaches, Evelyn? Didn’t you whine to me that Ruth had someone pour peach syrup all over your bed and nearly lulled you?”
