The man standing before me tensed up completely.
Samuel finally understood I wasn’t joking, and a hint of fear flashed in his eyes.
“Samuel, I can’t waste any more time with you. Theo is still outside waiting.” My tone was calm and neutral, as if I were speaking to someone I didn’t know.
As I exited the fitting room, stepping past him, Samuel stood still, his head now lowered.
“What happened? Why did it take you so long?” Theo asked, moving closer with a caring demeanor as soon as he saw me.
I simply shook my head. “Just a minor issue, but it’s sorted out now.”
Samuel was just a brief mistake in the larger narrative of my life. It was time to move forward.
“My mom invited us for dinner tonight. Let’s go.”
As I entered the Gibson’s residence once more, I was now Theo’s fiancée. Maria welcomed me with her usual kindness, heaping my plate with so much food it resembled a small mountain.
The peaceful mood changed when Samuel arrived–with Mandy by his side.
“Samuel, what’s going on? Didn’t you say you wouldn’t be home for dinner tonight?” Maria asked, rising in surprise, but he paid her no

attention.
Practically pulling Mandy along, he approached us, his eyes red from lack of sleep.
“Mom, I plan to marry Mandy.”
Even as he addressed Maria, his eyes remained locked on mine.
Seeing no response from me, a hint of disappointment flashed across his face. Ignoring Mandy’s yelp of pain, he pulled her harshly and proclaimed with emphasis.
“I plan to marry Mandy!”
As I sensed his intense stare, I calmly set my fork aside and said, “Congratulations.”
Samuel appeared stunned, his eyes wide with disbelief, and his breath became rapid.
“Amanda, why aren’t you jealous? Weren’t you the one who loved me the most? How can you end our engagement like this?”
Caught up in the whirlwind of his emotions, Samuel let everything he felt spill out. Even he was puzzled by the flood of questions that emerged.
“Isn’t your love for me meant to last forever?”
There was a subtle trace of grievance in his voice, which only made me smirk repeatedly.
“Samuel, nobody will love you forever. Considering everything you’ve done and those revolting things in your room, what makes you think I’d love you?”

I spoke with implication, and as soon as the words left my lips, Samuel’s face went pale.
Mandy, who had been observing the situation like an onlooker, finally saw an opportunity to intervene. She moved forward.
“Now that you’ve ended the engagement with Samuel, leave him alone. From this point on, mind your language–and remember to show respect to me, your sister–in–law.”
“Keep in mind, I still have your…”
Seeing Mandy standing there with her chin raised, I felt my breath quicken slightly as old memories resurfaced. Samuel, however, had an even more intense reaction.
He suddenly pulled his hand away from Mandy’s, his expression turning dark and menacing.
“Who gave you permission to bring this up? If you hadn’t taken advantage of my drunken state to provoke me that day, how would I have…”
Just as Samuel was about to continue speaking, Theo abruptly cut him off. Glancing at me with concern, Theo brought the charade to an end with a firm voice.
“That’s enough! Stop it. If that’s how it is, Samuel, you both need to leave Amanda and me alone. We don’t need your meddling in our peaceful life.”
Beneath the dining table, a warm, dry hand reached out and gently uncurled my tightly clenched fingers.
When our fingers laced together, I felt a warmth spread through my

The wedding went ahead as planned, with Theo as my groom.
Surprisingly, Samuel and Mandy chose to have their wedding on the same day as ours.
