It all felt like a bad dream. 

Damien Sterling returned from the government office in a daze, his mind swirling as he stepped back into the villa.

Just a week ago, everything had been fine.

“Your face looks so tense… Are you still worrying about Celeste?” 

Her fingers trailed lightly along his arm as she continued. 

“You said it yourself–she’s eighteen now, an adult. We can’t treat her like a child forever.” 

“Maybe she just needed some time to cool off. She’s probably off on some trip with friends, letting off steam.” 

As she spoke, Isolde wrapped her arms around Damien’s neck, leaning into him with

Celeste was finally out of the picture. 

All she needed was one final step to cement her place as the mistress of the Sterling 

household.

Leaning closer, Isolde whispered, her voice dripping with seduction, “You’re too tense, Damien. Let me help you relax…” 

She let her hand slide lower, toward his most intimate space, ready to claim him once and 

for all. 

But before she could touch him, Damien’s hand shot up, gripping her throat with a sudden, unrelenting force. 

“Ugh-!” 

Isolde choked, her eyes widening in shock. Her hands clawed at his wrist as she gasped for 

air. 

“D–Damien, stop! You’re hurting me!” 

Damien’s grip tightened, his face an unreadable mask of ice. 

“Celeste had cancer,” he said, his voice colder than a winter storm. 

“So tell me why did the doctor that night insist she was fine?” 

Panic flickered in Isolde’s eyes, her usual composure beginning to crack. 

“I–I don’t know!” she stammered, trying to sound convincing. 

“I don’t even know that doctor! Maybe… maybe he made a mistake?” 

But her performance wasn’t fooling Damien anymore.
