Damien took the pen the young man handed him and opened the notebook. 

His heart felt heavy yet reverent as he began to write.

Handing the notebook back, Damien smiled faintly. 

The young man’s eyes sparkled with gratitude.

Damien nodded. “And thank you. Talking to you helped me see things clearly.” 

For the first time in months, the fog in Damien’s mind lifted. 

He finally admitted what he had been too afraid to face. 

He loved Celeste. 

Not as a father. Not as a protector.
