Husband Got an Intern Pregnant - Chapter 13
“Mr. Greene…” The guys standing by the bed exchanged looks, but none of them dared to speak up.
Over the last six months, their boss had completely changed. Jericho used to be the life of the party, always taking them out, living it up.
But after Reina left, everything fell apart. He didn’t care about anything else.
Every time he got a new lead, he would book a flight without hesitation, chasing the possibility of finding her. But it always ended the same way, he came back empty–handed.
One time, it seemed like he had finally found her. He rushed out in a hurry, looking like he was on top of the world.
But when he came back… he was sick and worse off than ever. After that, he just shut down.”
He didn’t talk to anyone. The only thing he did was talk to himself, like there was someone else in the room that only he could see.
“She heard I was dead… and she didn’t even react?” Jericho’s voice cracked, red–eyed and full of disbelief.
The system’s response was blunt. “Yes. The host was out on a date. She didn’t show any emotion. The only thing she said was not to bring you up again.”
Jericho slammed his fist into the bed, the force making his stomach wound split open. Blood started oozing out, but he didn’t even notice.
The thought of Reina being with someone else, it destroyed him. It made it hard for him to breathe.
“I’ve loved her for so long… how could she do this to me? Take me to her. I need to see her, talk to her. I need answers.“
The system hesitated for a moment before it agreed, cold as always. “Fine. I’ll take you when the time comes.“
Jericho rushed to ask when, but the system had already gone silent.
The next few days were brutal. The board of directors pulled the plug on him. First, they stripped him of all his power, then booted him from the company entirely.”
Vaughan, who used to have his back, cut ties the moment Jericho stopped being useful. No more help. No more support.
His money ran out fast. The only thing he could hold onto was the house, the one he had shared with Reina.
Every day, he waited. He waited for the system to take him to her.
It had been so long since they last saw each other. Jericho kept telling himself that she would calmed down by now.
Maybe she would even miss the good times they had. Maybe she’d come around.
Jericho knew Reina. She was always the sentimental type, the one who held onto memories and looked back at them fondly.
They had so much history together, so many years of shared moments. There was no way she could just erase all of that. But the system never showed up.
Two years later, Jericho had just gotten rid of the debt collectors and was dragging himself back to his room, worn out.
As soon as he stepped through the door, everything changed. He wasn’t in his room anymore.
He was standing in a hospital corridor, outside a delivery room, surrounded by anxious family members.
Before he could even blink, the door swung open and a familiar face was wheeled out on a bed, a baby bundled up next to her.
Jericho’s heart nearly stopped. Reina wasn’t waiting for him. She had moved on. She had gotten married. And now she had a baby.
Reina looked pale, her face flushed from giving birth. Sweat clung to her forehead, but there was a soft smile on her lips as her husband gently held her hand.
“Our daughter is beautiful,” he said, grinning. “Look at her, Reina. Her eyes and eyebrows are just like yours, but her nose and mouth? Totally mine.”
They gazed at their baby, caught up in their own little world of joy, completely unaware of Jericho standing there, frozen in the hallway.
When their family members joined them and the corridor fell quiet, Jericho slid down the wall, the weight of it all crashing down on him.
If he hadn’t messed up, that could’ve been him. He could’ve been the one standing there with Reina, holding their baby.
Their little girl would’ve had Reina’s eyes and his nose. They would’ve been happy together. But he realized now that he’d been living in a fantasy.
He thought Reina wouldn’t be able to let go of their memories, that she would always come back to him.
But he was wrong.
Reina had her own life to live. She was going to meet new people, make new memories and he was just the past. The one who brought her pain.
A nurse passed by and looked at Jericho, giving him a curious glance. “Sir, there’s no one in the delivery room now. Are you waiting for someone? I can check for you.“
Jericho didn’t say anything. He just turned and walked away. He knew, deep down, that the Reina he had been waiting for, the one he thought might still be his, was long gone.
