Maeve’s head jerked sharply to the side from the impact of the punch, causing her to stagger, though she managed to stay upright.
Slowly, she turned her gaze back to face

Gideon, her eyes cold and devoid of any emotion.
For the first time, Gideon hesitated.
“You hit me,” she murmured, her tone unnervingly calm, almost chilling.
He scowled deeply. “That’s because you hurt Wren! Apologize right now!”
Maeve snapped back, “Wren is a Gamma werewolf, and I’m merely an omega. How could I possibly harm her?”
Gideon’s scowl deepened. “Apologize. Right now.”
Maeve curled her lips in a sneer. “Not a chance in hell.” Her words dripped with
venom.
A flicker of confusion crossed Gideon’s face. Maeve had never dared speak to him this way before. What was happening to her?

you don’t say sorry to her, forget about ever being the Pack’s head healer,‘ he warned sharply.
Maeve gave a bitter smile. “Fine” she said, and Gideon visibly relaxed, assuming she was about to relent.
“But honestly, I don’t want the head healer position,” she added casually, shrugging.
Gideon’s jaw dropped as she turned and walked away. Something felt off.
Before he could call her back, Wren gripped his arm tightly.
“Ow, my head hurts, Wren whimpered. “I think she hit me pretty hard.”
Gideon’s concern immediately switched to Wren, disregarding the fact that she was a powerful Gamma werewolf. An omega like Maeve couldn’t truly harm her.
“Come on. Wren. Let’s get you to the Pack’s

Back at home, Maeve promptly called the head of the Lunaris Apothecarium.
“Maeve! It’s wonderful to hear from you,” Griffin exclaimed. “Please tell me you’ve reconsidered our offer. It would really be a-”
“Yes,” Maeve interrupted. “I’ve thought it over. I’ll accept the position at the Lunaris Apothecarium. Give me one week to settle things here!”
Griffin was thrilled that Maeve had agreed to join the Sanctum. “Take all the time you need, my dear”
After hanging up, Maeve began packing her belongings.
She grabbed the fake, meaningless gifts Gideon had given her and tossed them straight into the trash.
When Gideon finally returned home, he looked around, surprised by how bare the

Worry flickered across his face. Was Maeve packing? Why?
He scoffed to himself. That couldn’t be true. Maeve couldn’t live without him.
“What’s going on? What are you doing?” he asked, confused as he glanced around.
Maeve forced a smile. “Just getting rid of some old stuff. I simply don’t need them anymore.”
Gideon frowned, stepping closer. “Really? All of this? That’s quite a lot.”
“It’s just junk, she replied with a casual shrug.
He nodded and tried to dismiss it.
“Wren says she forgives you. She doesn’t want things to stay this way between you two. She hopes you can become friends again.”

Maeve snorted. “Forgives me? I don’t need her forgiveness. Wren is nothing but a pretentious bitch” she spat.
Gideon raised his hand as if to strike her again, then hesitated.
“Don’t speak about Wren that way,” he growled.
Maeve smiled bitterly. “Sure,” she muttered, turning back to her packing.
Gideon sighed. “I’m sorry. I wasn’t really going to hit you at that time. I swear.”
Maeve hummed in response but said nothing.
He sighed again. “How about I take you to that restaurant you love? The one with the spicy noodle sauce?”
Maeve gave a fake smile, pretending to be pleased. She needed something from him

“Okay. What time?” she asked quietly.
Inside, Gideon smirked, confident he could easily soften her up. He knew his plan would work.
All he had to do was keep his tone gentle.
Maeve continued pretending to play along. “Seven works perfectly.” She forced a smile as he leaned down to kiss her, her body freezing as a wave of revulsion hit her.
“Don’t worry,” he murmured. “Next week, I’ll make sure you’re announced as the Pack’s head healer.” The same week he’d be celebrating his mating ceremony with Wren.
Maeve watched Gideon walk away, her lips curled into a cold smile. He had dangled that promise in front of her countless times.
But now, it meant absolutely nothing- because by next week, she’d be gone.
