I knew it all along, ne sneerea. You’re upset and insecure, but instead of being honest, you’re just pretending everything’s fine. I told you something came up at the Pack – I wasn’t anywhere else.”
Maeve responded with a nonchalant hum. “Okay!”
“That’s it? That’s all you have to say?” Gideon pressed.
Raising one brow, she fixed him with an unreadable look. “I said okay. You’re the one who won’t stop talking.”
Darkness flickered in his eyes. “I’m going out,” he muttered, stomping off toward the bedroom.
Maeve didn’t bother looking up.
After a moment, he returned. “Where the hell are all my clean clothes?”
She shrugged. “In the laundry basket. You
“I don’t have anything clean to wear!” he snapped.
At last, she turned to him with a sharp voice. “Then go to wash yourself.”
His face twisted in disbelief. “Are you serious?”
She met his gaze, unflinching and cold.
Gideon stood frozen for a second, then exploded. “What good are you, then? My clothes are dirty, you didn’t make breakfast! You’re getting lazy and useless! What happened to you? You used to handle everything without complaint, and now you can’t even do the basics!”
Maeve remained still, her stare icy and unreadable. She didn’t cry or beg. She didn’t say a word. It caught him off guard–he couldn’t figure out what she was thinking.

you, for years, without a single complaint. And now, because I didn’t do it this once, you call me lazy and useless?”
He opened his mouth to yell again, but then a thought stopped him cold. Losing her wasn’t an option–not now, with the conference coming up and her role at the Pack and clinic so important.
Gideon took a deep breath and stepped back, struggling to keep his temper in check.
“You’re right,” he admitted quietly, voice rough. “I’m sorry for what I said. I overreacted.”
He inhaled once more, softening his tone. “I didn’t mean to snap at you. I’ve been selfish. Things have been overwhelming lately, you know?”
Trying to ease the tension, he leaned closer. “Listen, I was thinking maybe we should start getting ready for our mating

Maeve didn’t blink. She just stared at him with that same inscrutable expression.
Gideon waited for excitement, for the joy she used to show when they spoke of the ceremony–but she only shrugged, indifferent.
“Take your time,” she said coolly, like they were discussing the weather. “I’m not going anywhere.”
Her reply hit him like a slap, and irritation. surged in Gideon’s chest. This wasn’t the reaction he had anticipated, but he quickly masked it with a forced smile.
“You’re right,” he said. “No need to rush. We’ll make sure everything’s perfect.”
Maeve stayed silent. Gideon clenched his jaw in frustration, knowing she still loved him but was caught up in her feelings. She just needed time to heal. And he was confident there was nothing she wouldn’t forgive

After his mating ceremony with Wren, he planned to shower Maeve with love and attention. Everything would be fine.
Finally, he sighed and stood. “I’ll grab my clothes from the laundry and give them to one of the omegas. Let’s not waste time arguing over something so petty.”
He turned to leave but paused, pressing a gentle kiss on her forehead. “We’ll talk about the ceremony later, alright? When you’re ready. And don’t forget to prepare for the upcoming conference.”
