Chapter 23

Margot’s unexpected entrance turned the whole ballroom upside down. Guests screamed and scattered in every direction, panic etched on their faces. Eliza stood there, eyes wide with disbelief, and shouted, “Margot, you’ve already broken the law. Escaping prison only makes it worse. Put the knife down!”

Margot seemed lost in her own world, inching closer to Eliza with each step, mumbling, “It’s all your fault. You’re the reason I ended up in that hellhole. Today’s the day you pay!” Her eyes burned with such intense hatred, it was as if she wanted to swallow Eliza whole.

The Newell family was just as stunned by this sudden chaos. As Margot raised the knife, poised to attack Eliza, a figure darted forward. Without a second thought, Aiden jumped in front of Eliza, yelling, “Margot, don’t hurt her!”

A wild glint flashed in Margot’s eyes, and without missing a beat, she drove the knife into Aiden’s chest.

“Aiden!” Eliza cried, her voice filled with horror.

Margot was too far gone, lifting the knife again to aim at Eliza. In the nick of time, the Newells sprang into action. Greg dashed forward, throwing himself between Margot and Eliza, shouting, “Margot, you’re out of your mind! Stop this madness!”

Driven by rage, Margot ignored his pleas and lunged at Greg, stabbing him in the stomach. Blood quickly soaked his shirt, but he bit back the pain, determined to protect Eliza.

Thea screamed, but without hesitation, she rushed to hold Margot back. “Margot, what are you doing? She’s your sister!” She cried, her voice a mix of pain and desperation.

Margot shook Thea off forcefully, sending her crashing to the ground, then lifted the knife once more toward Eliza. Evan was frantic. He leapt forward, using his arm to block the lethal blow.

“Ah!” Evan gasped, blood dripping from his arm, yet he stood his ground, shielding Eliza fiercely.

As Margot continued her violent spree, Aiden fighted against the agony in his shoulder, and charged at her again. When a familiar face rushed to the entrance, he mustered every ounce of strength to grab Margot from behind, shouting, “Dean, get Eliza out of here!”

There’s no time to ask questions. Dean hurriedly dragged Eliza out of the ballroom. Margot thrashed wildly, her knife slashing indiscriminately and leaving more cuts on Aiden, but he held firm. “Margot, snap out of it! Hatred will only keep you trapped in endless pain!”

Just then, the sound of police sirens blared outside the ballroom. Margot’s actions slowed, her eyes flickering with fear and uncertainty. The knife slipped from her hand, clattering to the floor as she collapsed.

Police officers stormed in, quickly restraining Margot and taking her away. Eliza and Dean rushed back to get the injured to the hospital. The Newells were battered with knife wounds, but Aiden’s condition was the most dire.

After surgery, they slowly came to. Greg opened his eyes to see Eliza by his bedside, a mix of guilt and relief in his gaze. When Thea awoke, she clutched Eliza’s hand, tears streaming down her cheeks. “Eliza, I’m so sorry…”

Evan weakly called out to his sister, regret heavy in his eyes. Aiden’s situation was still critical. With a grave expression, the doctor informed Eliza that Aiden’s injuries were severe enough that he might slip into a coma.
