Second Chance - Chapter 06
Chapter 6
“Mom, if I can’t find a pure Yin woman to bear a child for me, how else can I suck her essence and blood through the child to keep myself alive? How else can I possess the child to be reborn?”
Reborn? Nathan died?
Suddenly, I remembered that I had searched online about Nathan before. There was a gossip post revealing that Nathan had actually died and that he died because of overindulgence with a
woman.
At the time, the comments were jokes and rumors. I didn’t take it seriously.
But it was true.
From their later conversation, I finally understood everything.
Nathan really died. Jessica first found a master to résurrect her son. They needed to find a woman with a pure Yin constitution and clean blood–and I was the vessel.
While I was pregnant with Nathan’s child, my essence and blood would be constantly drained to keep him from dissipating. Until the child was born, the mother would also die from loss of essence and blood.
However, Nathan could possess the child and gain a new body–thus, be reborn.
No wonder after I was pushed off the rooftop in my previous life, even though the doctor had already said there was no hope of saving me, Jessica Grant still tried to do everything she could to resuscitate me.
She hugged Teddy and cried.
“What do we do? Nathan, she might already be carrying your child.”
A sorrowful male voice soon followed.
“It’s all because of that bitch Susan Moore. If it weren’t for her, I would’ve had my life back in a few months.”
“If Lena Quinn can’t be saved, that bitch isn’t getting away either!”
At the time, I couldn’t open my eyes anymore. My brain was muddled from the severe pain wracking my entire body.
I had just assumed Nathan Grant found out about my accident and had rushed back temporarily.
I didn’t suspect that the voice had actually come from the Teddy in Jessica’s arms.
It wasn’t until I was reborn that the pieces started falling into place.
In truth, even if Susan Moore hadn’t pushed me, my fate in that life would’ve ended in tragedy anyway.
That thought jolted me.
If I was their original target, it wouldn’t be long before Nathan remembered that I had been with Susan that day.
Even if he didn’t recall, asking Susan in the morning would give him the answer.
No. I had to leave–fast.

I opened my airline app and bought the soonest ticket out of the city.
In record time, I packed and rushed out–just in time to see Susan Moore waking up on the
monitor screen.
She first realized she was completely naked. Her eyes went wide at the marks covering her body and the Teddy lying on top of her.
With a shriek, she grabbed Teddy and hurled him at the wall.
“Ah! Go to hell!”
“You little beast–how dare you climb on me!”
Teddy let out a miserable yelp.
“Mom~”
“Stop it!”
Two voices rang out at the same time. Only then did Susan realize someone else was in the
room.
Facing Jessica Grant’s cold stare, she hastily yanked the quilt up to cover herself and scrambled to explain.
“Mom, I didn’t mean to! I just woke up and thought the dog had-”
As if something clicked in her mind, she spoke again, this time shyly.
“Mom, did Nathan come back? I thought I heard his voice.”
“He’s so cheeky–wouldn’t even wait for me to wake up. So rough too… how am I supposed to face people tomorrow?”
“Bitch, you hurt me and still want to see people tomorrow? Let me send you straight to hell today!”
Susan looked around, pale.
“Who said that?”
“Mom, did you hear it too? Is that Nathan? Why is he yelling at me?”
Jessica Grant stepped forward and slapped Susan across the face.
“Truly a filthy, brainless bitch! How dare you throw my son against the wall! Are you looking to die?”
“Don’t you realize that dog is his temporary vessel? If Teddy dies, so does he. Thanks to you, he can’t even project his shadow anymore!”
“And you dared call my son a little beast? You’re dead meat!”
She grabbed Susan’s hair and slammed her head into the bedframe.
The moment Teddy hit the wall, I had noticed Nathan’s shadow vanish.
Seeing Susan bloodied, Nathan’s voice returned.
“Mom, stop hitting her. I remembered something I need to ask.”
My heart raced and I told the driver to hurry.
Susan, stunned from the beating, only came to after a long pause.

Horrified, she gasped.
“That… that animal… the dog is really your son, Nathan Grant?”
It made sense that Susan was so shocked. In my past life, Jessica had also told me she treated Teddy like her own child.
Plenty of people today consider their pets family. Back then, I’d dismissed it as affection–neve imagining it was meant literally.
