Chapter 3 

The sky had completely darkened by the time Dominic and Vivian returned with the child 

The entire day. I curled up in bed, not moving an inch 

When Dominic entered the room, his face showed guilt, and my heart clenched painfully. Instantly. I had a bad feeling. 

Dominic spoke in a somber voice. 

“Aria, the child’s condition isn’t good. The doctor says he needs long–term care. They don’t know anyone else here.” 

“Our house is so big–so would it be possible for them to stay with us?” 

I closed my eyes tightly, trying to suppress the bitterness rising in my chest. 

Just this morning before leaving, he had promised that they wouldn’t affect our lives. Yet now, he wanted to move Vivian and her child in with us. 

When I opened my eyes again, my gaze was dear. 

I was about to speak when I noticed Vivian already standing at my bedroom door with the child 

“Miss Bailey, please don’t blame Dom. He’s just worried about Phoenix’s health. Since the baby was in my womb Dom took over my husband’s responsibilities. It’s natural the child is attached to him.” 

“He’s too young for me to explain that Dom isn’t his daddy. But if you’re really uncomfortable with this, we can leave…” 

As Vivian continued her manipulative speech, my attention was drawn to the necklace around the child’s neck, 

My breathing instantly became rapid. My hands gripped the blanket tightly as tears fell uncontrollably in large drops 

I looked up at Dominic, my voice hoarse and barely recognizable. 

“What’s that around the child’s neck?” 

When I was sixteen. Grandpa hired Dominic as my personal bodyguard at a high price. 

1 wasn’t in any danger, but when I was eighteen, Dominic was haunted by hidden enemies. In a critical moment, they 

fired bullets at each other 

In that split second, my body reacted faster than my mind. I rushed forward and took the fatal bullet meant for 

Dominic 

Dominic’s enemy died instantly. Dominic survived, but that bullet missed my heart by only half an inch

Chapter 3 

When I woke up in the hospital bed, Dominic was kneeling beside me, his eyes red from crying, his voice choked with emotion. 

“From today forward, my life belongs to you, Aria Bailey.” 

“1, Dominic Reed, will never betray you as long as I live.” 

He had the bullet removed from my chest made into a necklace. As he held my hand, he reverently kissed the bullet. 

“Trom this moment on, I will always remember that my life belongs to you.” 

“This necklace is my talisman. As long as I’m alive, this necklace will stay with me.” 

I don’t know if it was Dominic’s sincere red eyes that day, or the way he kissed the necklace with such devotion. 

I only know on that day, my heart melted into an ocean. 

But now, the necklace that Dominic had sworn would never leave his body as long as he lived was hanging quietly around the child’s neck. 

Dominic’s lips trembled for a long time, seemingly unable to explain. He didn’t utter a single word. 

Meanwhile, a barely noticeable hint of triumph flashed in Vivian’s eyes. 

“This necklace? 1 was in premature labor. The doctors said Phoenix was in danger. Dom was so worried to give this necklace to the baby. Phoenix has worn it since birth.” 

“And you know what? This necklace really worked. The child has…” 

Before Vivian could finish, Dominic interrupted her coldly. 

“Enough! Shut up!”
