homewrecker. Jason just stood behind her,
her silent supporter.
I smirked. “Fine. I’ll delete them.”
I took out my phone, posted my resignation
on social media, and was about to deactivate my work account.
Jason panicked and stopped me. “Forget it. You’re a long–time employee; don’t delete anything. Just leave!”
The colleagues breathed a sigh of relief. Brittany stomped her foot.
“Honey, don’t I even have that much power as a vice president?”
Jason, usually so lenient with Brittany, gave her a warning look. He softened his tone and
transferred $50,000 to me.
“Don’t worry, the company won’t let down its

loyal employees. You’ll get everything you’re
owed, just give us some time. Your severance
will be finalized in seven days. Go rest.”
He thought I still believed his act, that in
seven days, his illness would be the excuse,
and he’d apologize, and everything would be
fine.
But he didn’t know the critical project’s
deadline was in seven days. Failure meant
huge penalties.
Before, for the company and his future, I
would have endured it. But I was tired.
I didn’t want the company or him anymore. Jason instinctively reached to adjust my tie, then awkwardly stopped.
I looked at my phone, returning the money and deleting “My dearest Jason” from the

note.
Calmly, I said, “Jason, let’s get a divorce.”
Jason was stunned. “Divorce? Why?”
He quickly corrected himself. “Divorce?
You’re funny! My wife is Brittany! How could I
have married you?”
I didn’t bother with his weak performance. “I
tricked you into getting the marriage license.
Let’s get divorced.”
Brittany was delighted. “About time! Let’s
go!”
Jason hesitated. He wanted to brush it off:
“Let’s forget it, this is weird. I’ll decide later.”
I was confused. He liked Brittany, right? I was
offering him a divorce; why wasn’t he happy?
Before, I would have questioned him, foolishly
asking if he ever loved me.
く
Now, I just wanted a divorce.
“You don’t want a divorce? Are you still
attached to me?”
Brittany started crying, pulling on Jason’s
sleeve. “Jason, aren’t I your favorite wife?
How can you marry someone else?”
Pressured by us both, Jason reluctantly
agreed.
At the courthouse, Jason suddenly acted like
his memory returned. He grabbed my hand.
“This place is familiar… I remember. On New
Year’s Eve, I was here with you, waiting in line
to get our marriage license.”
He knew that was my happiest day. He
thought mentioning happy memories would
stop me. Before, he used this to win me back.
But that day, I overheard him faking amnesia

and talking about our wedding.
“What’s romantic about it? I agreed to marry her.” “But I didn’t want to spend my life with someone I didn’t love, so I kept delaying it until the last day.” “It’s just about settling
down with someone. She’s good and helpful.”
“She’s nice and a suitable spouse…”
!!
Hearing him praise me, my heart sank. I thought it was love. It was all about using me. Once the company improved, he became
obsessed with money and power, keeping me out, always suspicious of me.
I was lost in thought. Jason tugged my hand, asking if I remembered.
This marriage was exhausting. This was the best solution.
I shook my head. “No, the accident must have

damaged your brain.”
His smile froze. Seeing my indifference, he
acted as if I was unreasonable, not forgiving
a “sick” man.
He got angry, taking Brittany’s hand. “Yes, it’s
all fake! Brittany is my wife! We’ll get married
after this!”
He pulled Brittany inside, acting like he was
there for a wedding.
I followed. We were taken to a mediation
room.
Jason sat on Brittany’s lap, feeding her
grapes. He thought this would make me
jealous.
Instead, I only remembered the shy, cold
Jason. In public, he wouldn’t even hold my
hand. Now, he was completely different.
