The Cage of Lies - Chapter 03
Ch. The Cage of Lies 3 The Cage of Lies 3
Even the staff were uncomfortable. With my
firm stance, the divorce proceeded quickly.
I was emotionless, which angered Jason. He
sulked, speeding up the process.
Leaving the courthouse, I felt relieved.
Brittany leaned over. Seeing my home
address, she yelled, “Home? You’re divorced!
It’s not your home anymore! Pack your things
and get out!”
Jason smiled. “Right, let’s get the outsider
out so my wife can live here.”
He was making room for Brittany. No normal
man would accept this; I wouldn’t have either.
But I calmly nodded. “Okay, I’ll move.”
I booked a hotel. At home, I packed.
Things were beyond Jason’s control. He
softened, pretending to have some memory
く
back, showing me our wedding photo.
“Eleanor, when was this taken?”
I ignored him, packing. “Fake. I photoshopped
it.”
This enraged him. He threw my belongings
outside. “Get out! Now!”
He slammed the door.
I picked up my things silently.
Inside, Brittany said, “Jason, it’s my fault. I
shouldn’t have wanted to be vice president.
Seeing you divorce her makes me sad. I
should clear things up with your wife.”
Jason comforted her. “It’s not your fault.
Eleanor’s too petty; she’s arguing with a sick
man! We’ll ignore her. I’ll spend the next
seven days with you, then I’ll talk to her.
Eleanor is easy to appease. I’ll just snap my

fingers and she’ll come back.”
I entered the elevator.
He was wrong. It was truly over.
The next few days were delightful. My ex-
colleagues kept messaging. One called
urgently.
“Mrs. Evans, come back! The project
deadline’s here!”
I was about to refuse when I heard a
commotion, followed by Brittany’s angry
voice.
“Eleanor Evans, you’re fired! Stay out of it.”
The colleague protested, “Brittany, what are
you doing? The company will lose a lot of
money if the project fails!”
Brittany scoffed, “What’s the fuss? I’ll finish
the design. It’ll be ready soon.”
く
The colleague gasped. “Don’t be ridiculous!
Your skill is terrible! Plus, the client
specifically wants Mrs. Evans! You’re
deceiving them! Where’s Mr. Evans? I need to
talk to him!”
Brittany threatened, “Jason’s sick! If you
gossip, I’ll fire you all!”
The call ended. I guessed the outcome. They
wouldn’t risk it, they’d just endure.
I stopped thinking about it. I enjoyed my
freedom. I spent time with friends.
On the seventh day, in a dress, with a
bridesmaid’s corsage, I went to a friend’s
wedding. I texted my friend: “The corsage fell
off in the car, but I found it. I’ll be right there.”
I heard a familiar voice.
“Thank you all for coming to Brittany and my
wedding…”
I turned, seeing Brittany in a wedding dress,
with Jason greeting guests. Their wedding
photos were displayed.
Brittany saw me, kissed Jason, and the
guests screamed.
Jason froze when he saw me. He distanced
himself from Brittany.
Brittany thought I was crashing the wedding
and tearfully begged, “Sister, I truly love
Jason. Please, don’t steal him!”
Jason was about to defend her but saw my
corsage. He thought I was getting married
and his face went red.
“Eleanor, how could you get married without
telling me?” He tried to take the corsage to
put it on me.

I grabbed his hand. “We’re divorced, Brittany.
Please respect that.”
Jason was ?
distraught, briefly faking memory
recovery. “Eleanor, why am I wearing a
wedding dress? Are you marrying me again?”
I held his hand. “Stop pretending. I heard
everything about your amnesia plan with
