Chapter 13

When I came back out of the bathroom, he had set the food out on my desk, and pulled his chair next to mine. He was leaning back in his chair, looking at something on his phone. “Why did you do that?” I asked him as I sat next to him, looking at the food covering my desk. There was a little of everything, spaghetti, tacos, sushi, and a build your own sub platter. “And why did you get so much food?” 

“Because I didn’t know what you had a taste for, so I got a variety.” He said as he started to put food on a plate, then set it in front of me. 

“Are you going to eat too?” I asked him before taking a bite of the spaghetti. Something about it tasted off, like something was put in it. I didn’t want to complain, especially after he went through all of this trouble to have it brought to me, so I continued to eat it. 

“If you wish, kitten.” He said as he made another plate for himself. He followed suit and took a bite of the spaghetti as well. But the second he tasted it, he spit it out and swiped the plate off the table. “How much of that did you eat?” He asked me as he dialed a number on his phone, his eyes wild as he waited for the person on the other side to 

answer.

“A couple of bites… Why? What’s wro-” I started to ask him, but stopped as I suddenly puked, mostly on the desk, but some of it got on him. I didn’t have the time to feel bad when I doubled over in pain, feeling like someone had put my insides in a blender. The pain was unbearable as I screamed, holding my stomach. 

He didn’t answer as he picked me up, then suddenly we were outside, before I could even grasp what had happened, we were in a hospital with Damien setting me on a bed, yelling at a doctor to come and help me. “Damien, what happened?” I asked, trying to blink away the dizziness. Humans weren’t meant to move as quickly as a vampire could, and my body did not agree with it at all. 

“I’m sorry, little one. But I couldn’t wait to drive here, you’ve been poisoned.” he said as a few people rushed into my room, barking orders back and forth. (2 

I kept slipping in and out of consciousness as I could feel needles being put in my arm, and people yelling. When I finally came to my senses, I sat up straight in bed and looked around, “Damien?” I whimpered out, trying hard not to cry when I didn’t see him in the room with me. I hadn’t realized exactly how much I cared about him, until his sudden lack

of presence made me want to cry. Before I could blink, he was right next to me, pushing me to lay back in bed. 

“Lay down, Bast. You need to rest now.” He said softly as he pulled the phone away from 

his ear and set it down on the table next to me. “It was a common poison, so you’ve already received the antidote. You will be okay.” He said as he kissed me on the forehead. 

“Who?” I asked him, trying to blink away my drowsiness. 

“I’m going to find out, and I promise they will never have the chance to try it ever again.” he said, taking my hand as he sat next to me, then picked up his phone again. “Sam, you know what to do.” he spoke into the receiver, then ended the call. 

“I’m so sorry.” I cried out as the tears forced themselves out, when I saw the puke on his suit jacket. 

His eyes opened wide as he looked down at me, trying to figure out why I had suddenly started bawling “Bast, kitten, what’s wrong? Why are you crying? Did I say something wrong?” he said caressing the side of my face so softly, I couldn’t help crying harder, making him even more confused.
