The Devil’s Bride

Chapter 19

43%

He chuckled as he parked the car and held my hand, leading me to a park. I walked with him into the park and sat on a swing, he leaned against the pole, watching me as I began to swing. It felt really familiar, but I couldn’t remember why. “Do you remember being here?” He asked me after a few moments.

“I know this place is familiar, but I don’t fully remember.”

“This is why I said I couldn’t yet. I made a promise that I wouldn’t have you, until you turned eighteen.”

“Who did you promise that to?” I asked him curiously as I cocked my head to the side at him.

“You, kitten.” He said as he grabbed the chains of my swing, stopping me. “Your parents forgot to pick you up from school one day, so I stayed with you until they arrived. We sat right here on this swing set, you were still a young thing, nearing seven. You told me I was the prettiest man you’ve ever seen and asked me if I would marry you.” He said, the memory bringing a smile to his face. He gave me a soft push before he continued. “I told you I would marry you, but only if you still wanted me to once you were eighteen. You were pissed at me so you said, if you can’t be married to me, then I am not allowed to have sex with you until you were old enough to marry me.” 3

“I do actually remember that!” I exclaimed, the memory now vivid as I recalled it. “You don’t consider what you’ve done to be sex though?” I asked him, trying not to blush.

“Well, I asked you specifically what sex was, and you told me it was the thing adults did to make babies. I have done nothing that would make a baby with you, so no.” (1

“That is so immensely fucked up!” I laughed out. “It doesn’t weird you out at all, to want me, even after watching me grow up?” I asked him as I jumped off the swing and hugged him, looking up at his gorgeous face.

“You have to remember something, kitten. No human being that is currently alive, was around when I was born. I’ve been around to watch millions die, and millions more born.” He said kissing my forehead as he picked me up and carried me to the car. “It’s nearly midnight, you need to get some sleep.”

Chapter 19

I felt a pang of sadness when I heard what he said. I couldn’t imagine how lonely he was at times, knowing he would outlive every human alive. “I’m not tired at all, but I am hungry.” I said as he set me down in the car.

He drove us to a restaurant that was open twenty–four hours, sat across the booth from me, and waited until after we ordered before saying anything more. “I know you want to ask me something.”

“What is your real name?” I asked him, as I took a drink of my sweet tea. “I know you can’t have kept the same name, not over two hundred years.”

“The name I was given at birth? Lucifer Damien.” He said, looking down at the table.

“You know when you came to my house that night, I thought you were the actual devil.” I said with a giggle as I stretched out. “Do you think there is something wrong with me?” I

asked him softly just as the waitress brought our food out.

“Why would I?” He asked me.

“I wanted to kill Dana, because I needed to kill her? Or better yet, because I enjoyed it?“.

Wait what. A 7 year old telling him he can’t have sex with her until they marry? Come on writer. The proposal was cute but then you ruined it. This really shouldn’t have been written in. Very awkward.
