Chapter 19 

I opted for consecutive enrolment in a master’s and Ph.D. program, while my younger brother worked hard following my path and managed to get into a top university in the capital. He even brought me news about Lucy and her father. 

By then, Lucy’s reputation had already tanked, and she had lost the title of the James Group’s heiress. She didn’t even attend the college entrance exams. She was very unhappy with her birth mother and father. She threw tantrums at home daily, demanding luxury goods, designer handbags, plastic surgery for a fresh start, and millions to study abroad. But her mother was still shouldering a debt of five million dollars, and though her father had divided quite a lot of money, he was not married to Lucy’s mother, so why should he repay such a huge loan for her 

Would it not be better for him to find someone younger, prettier, and continue living a wealthy life 

But Lucy was not so easy to dismiss. At 16, she dared to hit people with steel pipes, and by 18, she dared to try to kill someone with a knife. 

She fought with her own father over money until both were harmed one ended up paralyzed, the other in prison. 

The jail term she had avoided at 16 finally came to her at 18. 

However, all of this was no longer relevant to me. 

My foster parents, oh no, my actual parents, also moved to the capital with us. They said that wherever my brother and I were, that was their home. 

What they didn’t know was that in my heart, wherever love is, that is my home. 

On my wedding day, my parents gave me a bank card. All the money I had given them over the years, they had carefully saved and even added to, saying it was my dowry.

We also hoped that we could bring more children out of the mountains.
