Ch. Chapter 6 Time will turn your hair white together Chapter 6

  1. 6.

The moment Frank walked into the office,

Jessica was right behind him.

“Mr. Frank, here’s that contract from

09

yesterday.”

Jessica put the file on the desk, then walked

right up to Frank and put a hand on his

shoulder.

It used to be an unspoken thing between

them.

Now, Frank suddenly felt uncomfortable.

He sat up straight, opened the file, and

frowned.

The basics were just common sense, and

there was nothing special about her

professionally.

Not to mention all the loopholes that could

cost the company millions.

It was a disaster.

I used to check every contract three times

before I let him see it, making sure there were

no risks to the company.

But this…

He slammed the file on the desk, his voice

L

“Who the hell did this? Do they even have

basic skills?”

“Get Ashley in here, I want to ask her if she

even wants to be the head of legal anymore!”

Jessica turned pale.

“Mr. Frank, I did it.”

All of his anger died down.

Frank looked at Jessica, who was about to

cry, and felt helpless for the first time.

She wiped her eyes, looking pitiful.

“I’m sorry, Mr. Frank, it’s all my fault…”

<

“Maybe I’m just like Ms. Ashley said, I can’t

handle this job, and I’m just making trouble

for you…”

She turned to leave.

Frank instinctively grabbed her, but then froze

when he saw the look on Jessica’s face.

Ashley never looked like that.

She was proud.

No matter what happened, she would figure

out how to fix it, not like Jessica…

Even when he was yelling at her, she would

calmly tell him, “Jessica’s careless, she’s not

fit to be your assistant.”

<

So every time Jessica screwed up, Ashley

was the one who had to fix it.

So later, whenever Jessica had a problem, he

automatically pushed Ashley out there.

So…

Frank stopped mid–sentence, and slowly let

go of her hand.

“Just… go back to work.”

Jessica’s face flushed red, she hadn’t gotten

the reassurance she wanted, and almost burst

into tears.

Frank saw it and rubbed his temples

impatiently.

Г

“Redo this contract and make sure it’s right

this time.”

Jessica bit her lip and reluctantly left.

A coworker who was good friends with

Jessica took a picture of this scene and sent

it to my phone.

[Ms. Ashley, that secretary who always steals

our work got yelled at today, haha, serves her

right!]

In his office, Frank was dialing my number

over and over again, but still couldn’t get

through.

Even though he was trying to convince

himself that it was fine, seeing my empty

He couldn’t focus on work.

He finally caved and called the HR director.

“Is there anything I need to take care of, Mr.

Frank?”

“Did Ashley take the day off?”

The man asked casually, looking at the files.

The HR director paused, giving him a

confused look.

“Ms. Ashley resigned.”

“What?!”

Frank froze, tearing the paper with the pen.

“When did this happen? Who approved it? I

don’t remember.”

The HR director said in confusion.

“It was submitted last night, and you

approved it this morning!”

Frank felt like he’d been struck by lightning.

He opened his computer and quickly scanned

his emails. He found the only resignation

letter, opening it with shaking hands.

Finally, seeing my name at the bottom, he

was overcome with panic.

“Cancel the application right now! Now!”

The HR director wiped the sweat from his

forehead, trembling.

“Mr. Frank, the process is already

complete…”

Outside the office, Jessica walked in with a

file, looking anything but upset, even a little

happy.

“Mr. Frank, here’s your fax.”

His eyes swept over the paper, landing on the

words “divorce agreement,” and he slumped

back into his chair.

It took him a long time to recover.

He pulled out his phone and called his best

friend bie vais

<

“Find out where this fax came from.”
