Chapter 8 Don’t Do This

Kendrick suddenly stood up and grabbed my hand.

“I won’t accept it! You’re just with Frederic to make me regrel, right?” he spat.

Ignoring my resistance, he tried to pull me away.

“Come on, let’s go get

go get the marriage certificate. We shouldn’t have

waited this long to do it!”

Suddenly, Frederic burst in, punching Kendrick square in the face.

Kendrick caught off guard, stumbled back a few steps before regaining his balance.

Ophelia, who had been held back by Kendrick’s friends, broke free and kicked him hard.

Frederic grabbed me, gently inspecting my wrist.

When he saw the bruise, his face softened with concern, and he carefully lifted me in his arms, walking toward the exit.

Kendrick lunged at us, but Frederic’s bodyguards quickly restrained him, holding his arms tightly.

Still, he fought against them, shouting, “He’s the heir to the

Haywood family! Do you really think they’ll let you into their house?

“You and I are the perfect match, Kristine. Don’t leave me!

His voice, raw and desperate, grew fainter as we walked away.

In the car, Frederic’s eyes were full of tenderness. He kissed me gently, starting from my forehead, then my eyes, and finally my lips.

His kiss was light, tender, and lingering.

My heart raced, and I felt like I was melting under his touch.

But then he pulled back, resting his forehead against mine. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you.”

I shook my head. “It’s not your fault.”

After all, no one could have predicted Kendrick would act so irrationally.

And even without Frederic, I wouldn’t have let Kendrick continue his madness.

Frederic glanced at his watch, sighing, “It’s getting late, but if we had more time, we could’ve gone to get the marriage certificate today.”

I couldn’t help but laugh.

He cupped my face, looking serious. “I mean it. I don’t want that crazy guy messing around with my wife.

“I have to go back to Zephyria tomorrow to report on my work progress. Once I’m done with this project, we’ll get married.”

We spent a passionate night together.

When I woke up, the bed beside me was already cold.

I rolled over, inhaling the faint scent left behind.

A sense of emptiness settled in as I sat on the bed, staring blankly ahead for a long time.

My phone rang. It was Ophelia.

In the afternoon, she invited me to meet her at a fancy café.

As soon as we sat down, she started making small talk, asking how I

was.

I cut her off. “Mrs. Freguson, if you have something to say, just say it.”

Upon hearing my indifferent tone, her smile faded.

“Kristine, you need to know your place. The Haywood family is too high up for someone like you to reach.

“Look at this. Madam Haywood is already preparing to pick a fe for Frederic.”

Ophelia shoved her phone screen in front of me.

The picture on the screen showed Frederic’s grandmother, Serena. Haywood, holding a girl by the hand, with Frederic standing beside them.

“You’re not in their league!

“I know Kendrick made mistakes before, but young people make mistakes. He’s learned from them now…”

I interrupted her, “Mrs. Freguson, you don’t need to try to convince me. There’s no chance for Kendrick and me.”

Her expression soured. “Aren’t you worried about what will happen if our families turn against each other? Your father’s company will suffer.”

I smiled, “Mrs. Freguson, why go down that path? If your family keeps pushing, Freguson Group won’t come out unscathed, either.”

I left the meeting with Ophelia, our conversation ending on a sour

note.
