Chapter 9

“Bang!”

The moment the phone slipped from Jason’s palm, the tempered glass exploded into a spiderweb pattern on the tiles!

The special alert tone set specifically for Kate was still vibrating, twisting like a power drill along her ear canal into her brain.

An hour ago, this melody was still wrapped in honey, but now every note has grown thorns.

Jason’s irises were burning, with the remnants of news headlines seared. onto his retinas. The square black letters were melting into asphalt, flowing back into his skull along his optic nerve.

Purchase completed

“Flight MU587 crashed in the air three minutes after takeoff, with no survivors!”

“Crashed, no one survived…”

“No one survived…”

Dead, he died…

Is Carla dead?

“No, no way, it’s impossible…”

Just an hour ago, Jason personally took Carla to the airport. He vividly remembered her voice, her eyes, and even the color of the clothes she was wearing at the time.

How could such a lively person suddenly be gone?

No, she must still be alive!

Jason quickly bent down to pick up his phone, his fingers frantically tapping for over a minute before successfully unlocking the screen. The flight number, which should have been soaring through the stratosphere, was now floating in the notification bar, followed by the alarming words. “crash” and “incident.”

Jason’s fingers pressed against the glass, trying to adjust the focus. The cold, hard sensation crawled along his fingertips, and his entire arm quickly crystallized into a glacier. He realized belatedly that he was trembling – no, the whole building was shaking.

He didn’t know how he ran out of the hospital, nor did he know how he got on the car.

On a rainy night shrouded in darkness, the black Maybach flashed across the overpass, the accelerator pressed to the maximum by Jason, his crimson eyes fixed firmly ahead.

Faster, faster, even faster!

The airport in the early morning was packed with people, with screams, wails, sobs, and curses all mixed together.

“Why did the plane have an accident…”

“Give me back, give me back my family!”

“I was going to kill you, I was going to kill you!”

***

Countless people’s overwhelming sorrow turned into an invisible giant hand, squeezing Jason’s body tightly, making it difficult for him to catch his breath.

He struggled to push through the crowd towards the sea of people,

everything in front of him seemed to be in slow motion.

He saw someone tearing, someone roaring, their expressions were all the same, in agony.

He tried his best to squeeze to the front of the counter, asking the staff in front of him with a hoarse voice, but his mouth opened for a long time. without a sound coming out.

“Hello, may I ask which victim’s family member you are?”

The staff asked him loudly.

The words “casualties” felt like a heavy hammer pounding fiercely on hist head, making him dizzy and ringing in his ears.

Jason’s large hand tightly gripped the edge of the counter, his knuckles. turning white with the force.

“Carla, I… I was Carla’s family member.”

Perhaps afraid that the staff couldn’t hear clearly, Jason repeated it again.

“I was Carla’s family member.”

Jason had a lot of questions to ask the staff. Did the plane really crash? Did everyone really die? Is Carla really gone?

When it came to this point, he couldn’t say anything, he could only be manipulated like a puppet by the staff. The staff asked him questions and he answered, they told him to do something and he did it.

Finally, the staff gave him a piece of paper. “This is the confirmation of Carla’s death, but please sign here.”

A piece of paper with a black and white portrait of Carla was handed to

Jason.

He opened his eyes wide, trying hard to see the words on the paper

clearly. However, no matter how hard he rubbed his eyes, in the end, he couldn’t see a single word clearly.

Jason grabbed the hand of the person next to him in a panic and said, “Excuse me, can you help me take a look?”

“What is written on this?”

The man was already furious, but when he saw the words on the paper, his anger turned into sorrow.

“I’m sorry to inform you that your wife also perished in the plane crash.”
