Chapter 295 What Phina Knew
Lady Flourish POV
a
I was still in Dartwood when Damian told me Harold had ended his marriage to Phina.
We were in the estate office, going through the latest border reports.
Ragnar had left a few minutes earlier after updating Damian about the patrols, and I was reading Rhys’s notes on the silver bracelet when Damian put his phone down.
“Harold called Magnus from the airport.”
I looked up.
“What happened?”
“Phina lied about a pregnancy. The child isn’t his.”
For a moment, I said nothing.

I had no sympathy for Phina, but I didn’t feel pleased either. There was too much happening around us for her marriage to be the thing that mattered most.
“How does this affect Stonehedge?”
Damian rubbed his jaw.
“Her position there is going to change.”
My wolf lifted her head.
“Ask what she knows.”
I closed Rhys’s report.
“Then we should.”

The timing bothered me. Harold had only just discovered what Phina had hidden, and we had just found a symbol from the Stonehedge tunnels hanging at Dartwood’s border.
The two things might be unrelated, but I was done assuming that.
I called Rhys.
“Dig into Phina.”

He answered from his car.
“Her marriage?”
“Everything. Finances, clinic records, old accounts, contacts. Find out where her money came from before she married Harold.”
“You think she’s connected?”
“I think we should know.”
“I’ll start now.”
By the time we returned to Stonehedge, Rhys had already found something.
He met us in the security room with several files open on the main screen.
“Phina received regular payments for years.”
“From whom?”
“That took longer.”
He pulled up the first account.
“It was registered under a company that no longer exists. The company received money from another holding company. That one was owned by another.”
Damian folded his arms.
“How many layers?”
“Four.”
Rhys opened the final record.
The account behind all of them was linked to Voss family holdings.
I stared at the screen.
“So Phina was being paid by Voss.”
“Indirectly,” Rhys said. “But the trail is strong.”
My wolf went silent.

I looked at Damian.
“This wasn’t about Harold.”
“Apparently not.”
Rhys continued.
“The payments started years before Phina married him.”
“How much?”
“Enough that she didn’t need another source of income.”
I sat down.
“Get her.”
Rhys hesitated.
“She agreed to speak with you.”
That surprised me.
“Where?”
“Secure call. She’s already waiting.”
I took the tablet.
Phina appeared on the screen a moment later.

She looked different from the woman I remembered from the dinner stories around Stonehedge. There was no polished smile, no attempt to appear composed. Her eyes were tired.
“You wanted to speak to me,” she said.
“I know about the payments.”
Her face tightened.
“Then you know enough.”
“No. I don’t.”
Damian remained beside me, but I handled the call.

“How long have you worked for them?”
Phina looked away. “I didn’t know it was them at first.”
“That isn’t what I asked.”
She took a breath.
“Years.”
“Before Harold?”
“Yes.”
My fingers tightened around the tablet.
“Why?”
“They approached me before I ever met him.”
“Who approached you?”
“I never met the person who controlled the money.”
“Then how did you receive instructions?”
“Through messages. Different numbers. Different accounts. Sometimes through people I never saw twice.”
“What were you supposed to do?”
Her eyes dropped.
“Watch.”
“Watch what?”
“Stonehedge.”
The word sat between us.
Phina continued before I could speak.
“They wanted information about the family, Gatherings. Who visited. Who had access to certain rooms. Old photographs. Family records when I could get them.”

“And you married Harold because of that?”
“Yes.”
Damian shifted beside me.
My wolf growled.
“You used him.”
“I was recruited to marry into the inner circle. That was the assignment.”
“Did you know about my bloodline?”
“No.”
Her answer came quickly.
“What about the tunnels?”
“I didn’t know they existed.”
“The Eastern Army?”
She shook her head.

“I knew the name Voss. I knew they had interests in Stonehedge. I didn’t know about an army, the tunnels, or what they were actually looking for.”
I studied her face.
“You expect me to believe you were taking money for years without asking why?”
“I asked.”
“And?”
“They told me it was political information. Old families. Pack alliances. Nothing more.”
“That’s convenient.”
“I know how it sounds.”
“It sounds like you knew enough to keep going.”
She looked down.

“I was paid extremely well. At first, I thought I was doing something harmless. Then I was already too involved to leave.”
“You could have told someone.”
“Who would have believed me?”
I had no answer for that.
Rhys had found enough evidence to prove the payments, but we still didn’t know who had given her the orders.
I watched her for a few seconds.
“Were you ever asked to do anything besides collect information?”
“No.”
“Did anyone ask about me specifically?”
“Yes.”
My attention sharpened.
“What did they want to know?”
“Whether you were close to Harold. Whether you spent time with Magnus. Whether your parents were still communicating with Stonehedge.”
“Anything else?”
“They asked about photographs of your family.”
“Why?”
“I don’t know.”
She rubbed her hands together.

“They were especially interested in old photographs. They wanted pictures that showed family members, relatives, pack elders, anyone connected to the old bloodline.”
Damian looked at me.
That matched what Rhys had just found.
“Did you ever send them pictures from the tunnels?”

“No. I didn’t know about the tunnels.”
“Did you ever meet anyone from Voss?”
“Once.”
“When?”
“Years ago. Before Harold.”
“What did he look like?”
“I don’t remember enough to identify him.”
Rhys spoke from behind us.
“That’s still something.”
Phina looked toward him.
“I know I should have stopped.”
I didn’t respond.
There was too much damage in what she had admitted, and I wasn’t interested in making it easier for her to carry.
I leaned closer to the screen.
“Who was your handler?”
“I don’t know his name.”
“His?”
“I think it was a man.”
“You think?”
“His voice was always disguised.”
I opened my mouth to ask another question.
Her phone buzzed.
Phina looked at it and her face turned pale.

“What is it?”
She didn’t answer.
She stared at the screen for several seconds before lifting the phone toward the camera.
“Read it.”
I looked.
There was one message.
“Your usefulness has officially expired.”
I read it twice.
Damian leaned closer.
“Can you trace the number?”
Rhys was already moving toward his workstation.
Phina lowered the phone.
“They know I told you.”
My wolf spoke quietly.
“They’re watching.”
I looked at Phina.
“Then tell me everything you remember.”
She swallowed. “I will.”
