Chapter 298 The Eastern Gate
Alpha Damian
I was already moving before the alarm finished its second cycle.
“Eastern gate!” the security system repeated.
Warriors poured into the corridor from both sides, some already shifting as they ran. Claws struck the floor.
The pack link filled with overlapping reports, and I pushed through the noise, heading straight for the eastern entrance.
Flourish was behind me with two guards.
“Stay with her,” I ordered.
A warrior nodded and fell back whale Callum was beside me.
I had expected him to slow down once we left the house. He didn’t.
He kept pace without effort, moving with the balance of someone who had spent years training his body for more than appearances and business meetings.
I glanced at him once.
His jacket was still on. His breathing hadn’t changed.
“You fight?” I asked.
“When necessary.”
That was all he gave me.
We reached the outer grounds and found the eastern gate in pieces.
One section of the metal barrier had been forced inward, and the ward lines around it were broken. Several guards stood around the opening, weapons ready.
“Where is the intruder?” I asked.
One of them pointed.
“There.”

At first, I saw only blood.
Then the wolf moved.

He was dragging himself across the ground, one front leg hanging badly and his side covered in blood.
His fur was matted with dirt, and his breathing came in rough bursts. He wasn’t attacking.
He was trying to get inside.
“Hold position,” I ordered.
The warriors stopped advancing.
I walked closer, keeping my senses open. His scent reached me through the cold night air.
I knew it.
My male wolf reacted before I fully placed it.
“Moonbridge.”
I remembered the chamber. The wolves who had stood behind Voss. The ones who had stepped forward when Flourish spoke.
The ones who had lowered themselves and knelt before her despite knowing exactly what defying Voss could cost them.
This wolf had been one of them.
“Get a healer,” I said.
One warrior ran.
The injured wolf tried to lift his head.
“Alpha…”
“Don’t move.”
His eyes found mine.
“I had to get here.”
“You’re safe for now.”

He coughed and blood appeared at the corner of his mouth.
Finished
Callum stepped closer.
The wolf saw him and tried to push himself upright.
“Don’t.” I said.
His body dropped again.
“They know,” he whispered.
I crouched beside him.
“Who?”
“Voss.”
The name changed the air around us.
“What does he know?”
The wolf swallowed with difficulty,
“How many…”
His breathing broke.
“How many what?”
“How many of us knelt to Lady Flourish.”
My jaw tightened.
“Explain.”
“He found out.”
The wolf looked toward the broken gate as though he expected someone to come through it.
“He knows who turned against him at Moonbridge.”
My male wolf growled.
The injured wolf’s eyes closed for a second before opening again.
“He started hunting us.”

“Who?”
“Everyone who knelt.”
His voice was barely audible.
“One by one.”
The warriors around us went silent.
One of them looked toward the tree line, then checked the darkness behind the broken ward.
I could sense the same question moving through the pack link. If one wolf had escaped, there was no guarantee the others had managed to do the same.
The eastern patrol tightened around the opening, and two warriors shifted fully, their claws scraping against the ground as they took positions on either side of the breach.
“Search the perimeter.” I ordered. “No one leaves the grounds alone. Check every scent trail and every damaged ward.”
“Yes, Alpha.”
I turned back to the injured wolf.
I looked at the wound on his shoulder. It was too deep to have come from a simple fight at the border. There were other cuts across his back and ribs.
“Was Voss here?”
“No.”
The wolf struggled to breathe.
“His people.”
“Where are they?”
“I don’t know.”
“Did they follow you?”
“I ran.”
He tried to move and winced.

“They wanted me alive long enough to tell the others.”
“What others?”
“The ones who haven’t been found.”
His head dropped.
“They’re making examples of us.”

A healer finally reached us with two assistants. They dropped beside the injured wolf and began checking his injuries.
“Move back,” the healer said.
I stood, but I didn’t leave. The wolf grabbed weakly at my wrist.
I looked down.
“Don’t let them find the others.”
“You have my word.”
His fingers slipped away.
The healer gave instructions, and the assistants lifted him onto a stretcher. As they carried him toward the medical wing, I watched his blood trail across the ground.
Callum hadn’t moved.
I turned toward him.
His face had changed.
The controlled expression he usually wore was gone. His eyes were fixed on the stretcher, and his jaw was tight enough that I could see the muscle working beneath his skin.
“You knew Voss would retaliate,” I said.
“I knew he would be angry.”
“This isn’t anger.”
“No.”
Callum’s voice was quiet.

Chapter 298 The Lastern Gate
“He is cleaning up.”
“Your family?”
“People who once served him.”
I watched him.
“You sound surprised.”
“I am.”
He looked toward the broken gate.
“Voss has always been ruthless, but he used to understand the value of keeping people loyal through fear. Killing them after they switch sides is different.”
“You think this is new?”
“I think he’s losing control.”
His hands curled at his sides.

For the first time since I had met him, I understood why people had feared the Voss name long before the Eastern Army became our problem.
Callum wasn’t simply a wealthy man with information.
He had been raised inside that world.
He knew exactly what Voss was capable of because he had seen it up close.
Flourish reached us with the guards.
“What happened?”
I looked at her.
“One of the wolves from Moonbridge made it here.”
Her face tightened.
“Is he alive?”
“For now.”
I told her what he had said.

She went quiet.
Her female wolf rose close beneath the surface.
“They’re hunting them.”
“Yes.”

Callum looked at her.
“He came here because he wanted you to know before they were all gone.”
Flourish’s eyes stayed on him.
“Why?”
Callum didn’t answer immediately.
“Because you gave them somewhere else to stand.”
I looked back at the broken eastern gate.
The breach had not been an attack.
It had been a warning delivered by someone who had barely survived long enough to reach us.
And now Voss knew exactly who had chosen Flourish.
That changed everything.
