Lady Flourish’s POV

“Harold…” A voice said breathily. “We can’t do this here.”

I glanced at Damian, who was staring at me with the same blank but knowing expression.

Harold was with Phina again.

In a stall probably down the hall, blowing off everything important happening in that banquet hall because of the same woman.

Again.

My wolf snarled before I could stop her as uncontrollable rage flooded my veins.

That damned woman. What exactly does she have over Harold that has made him act so irrationally over the years and even on this night?

“You have a decision to make,” Damian’s voice cut through my train of thought.

I gasped, slightly startled. “What do you mean?”

He crossed his arms and stepped forward, his muscles rippling with each movement. “Your supposed mate is being intimate with another woman. Judging from your reaction,” he stepped closer until he was inches away from me, then lowered his lips to my ear. “you already know about this.”

I swallowed. “So what am I supposed to do? I already said I was done with him.”

He chuckled, a deep, rich sound that once again, made my knees weak. I didn’t like it.

“Are you sure that’s what you want, Little Flower?” He pulled back, staring at me intently.

My wolf began to squirm, and I looked away, biting my lower lip.

Why would he ask me that?

Sure, he had known me so well at a time in my life. But he didn’t know anything about me now. He knew nothing about the challenges I survived, just to get to where I was.

“Oh Harold!” Phina’s moans echoed again in the silence.

Who was I to interfere if Harold thought I was unworthy? Who was I to force him to reciprocate the love I had tried so desperately to show him for the past six years?

“Yes. It’s what I want,” I said squarely, meeting Damian’s gaze head on. “And I would appreciate it if you left me alone for the rest of tonight.”

I walked out of the bathroom and headed straight to the banquet hall, my dress still slightly damp with a bright red stain on it.

My wolf was basically clawing at the surface, begging to be let loose. I stood at the door, drawing in deep breaths.

Damn this stupid event.

Fuck that I even thought I could stand all of this.

Fuck that I allowed Harold to see me again. To touch me and have everyone believe he still had me in his grip.

I pulled my thoughts together and walked in, keeping my expression neutral.

Daciana noticed me first, her brows lifting in concern. “Oh Flourish, you couldn’t get the stain out? Would you like a dress change? We can get the maids to take this for cleaning immediately.”

I shot her a glance and shook my head politely. “No, Lady Daciana, that won’t be necessary. I think it’s best I retire for the night. I wouldn’t want to put any more stress on anyone.”

She looked downcast, but the pity in her eyes was hard to miss. “Okay dear. Is Harold taking you home?”

turned to me, and somehow, they had began to realize that Harold wasn’t with me.

Which meant he was still with Phina.

My expression flickered, but I kept my composure. “No, Lady Daciana. He told me he had a little more interactions to have with the other Alphas,” I said smoothly.

Alpha Magnus watched me from the head of the table, his eyes narrowing at my expression. “So where is Harold now? All the Alphas are in this room.”

The temperature in the room plummeted.

I straightened, staring at his seat. Then, I said matter of factly, “I don’t know. We all saw him take Phina to the healers. Maybe he’s still with her.”

“For over an hour? Is her wolf really that affected by the moon sickness that a minor cut would take hours to dress?” An Alpha, one I recognized as one from the north, blurted out.

Little murmurs and whispers began to rise throughout the table. That Alpha had just said the minds of almost everyone here. Daciana and Alpha Ragnar glanced at each other, the fear evident in their eyes.

The atmosphere became even more tense, but me? I smirked.

If anything were to happen, Harold would answer for himself.

“When he returns, why don’t you ask him?” I retorted, already moving to my seat.

The Alphas began to exchange glances with each other. Everyone suddenly lost interest in their food.

I could feel Alpha Magnus‘ rage from where I sat, putting my things together to leave. Then, I got up, walked towards him, and placed a small envelope in his palm.

“Grandpa, this is a token of my appreciation. I’m glad the banquet was a success,” I said, smiling as warmly as I could.

He nodded at me, smiling faintly in return, but the storm in his old blue eyes couldn’t be hidden.

Oh, he was so pissed.

I bowed respectfully to everyone one last time and headed for the door. I pulled out my phone and called my driver. “Come to the front of the building. I’m ready to leave.”

“Okay Lady Flourish. Is Alpha Harold with you?”

I clicked my tongue. “And how is that of your concern?”

“My apologies Lady Flourish,” he said and I hung up.

The guards pulled open the front door for me when Damian’s voice

“Flourish.”

I fought the urge to turn around, but I could feel his eyes on my back. “Goodnight, Alpha Damian.”

“Let me take you home at least. It’s late, and wolves tend to be merciless at this hour,” he offered.

I turned around at that, a small scoff playing at my lips. “Are you suggesting that I wouldn’t know how to defend myself?”

He tilted his head in amusement. “Do you? Because from what I remember-”
