Chapter 5 

If you weren’t paying close attention, Sebastian truly appeared to be a heartbroken husband. 

Unfortunately for him, the calculation and cruelty in his eyes were impossible to miss. 

I replied with practiced nonchalance. “Didn’t Claire already tell you? I stayed at her place.” 

Sebastian lurched to his feet. “Sure, Claire covered for you when you were friends. But after you publicly humiliated her today, she told me everything!” 

I stared him down. “Claire and I haven’t spoken in years, yet somehow she mysteriously appeared as your assistant without you mentioning it once.” 

“So tell me that night, was she helping you or me?” 

Sebastian glanced away, clearing his throat. “Claire becoming my assistant was just coincidence. Don’t read into it.” 

“About the reunion–Claire saw Edmund escorting you out while you were completely wasted. You don’t need to deny-” 

“I admit it. Edmund took me to a hotel that night.” 

“WHAT?!” 

Sebastian’s fingers dug into my shoulders as he shouted in my face. “Anastasia, you betrayed me!” 

His performance was impressive–the perfect portrayal of a betrayed husband, 

Too bad it was all an act. 

I met his gaze coolly. “And?” 

Sebastian could barely contain himself. “Divorce. You’re the guilty party. You leave with nothing.” 

I brushed his hands away. “Fine by me.” 

Sebastian’s eyes lit up instantly. 

I laughed bitterly. “I’ve been at home all these years with no income. You can have all our savings and the house we bought after marriage.” 

Sebastian quickly added, “And the company. You need to sign it over to me immediately.” 

I looked at him like he was speaking another language. “What the hell are you talking about? My parents‘ will explicitly states that I inherit the company solely.” 

“It’s not marital property. Even if I walk away with nothing else, the company has absolutely nothing to do with you.” 

Sebastian froze. “What will? I’ve never seen any will.” 

I shot hini a disgusted look, unwilling to explain further. “If you want a divorce, draft the papers. I need to be up early for work tomorrow. I’m going to bed.” 

I locked the bedroom door behind me.

Sebastian tried the handle several times before launching into a tirade from the hallway, 

“Stop bullshitting me about some will, Anastasia! You cheated and you’re still acting high and mighty? What kind of wife are your

I swallowed my rage and put in earplugs before closing my eyes, 

Sebastian wouldn’t give up easily. I needed to conserve my energy and stay one step ahead of him. 

The next morning, I had barely settled into my office when my phone rang–the police department, 

“Ms. Sterling, the test results confirm the presence of sedatives and date–rape drugs in your bloodstream.” 

“Our tech team has also discovered that your husband, Sebastian Winchester, purchased these substances from an overseas website 

two weeks ago.” 

“Hotel security footage corroborates your accusations against Edmund. We’ll be arresting both suspects shortly,” 

A wave of relief washed over me as I began to thank them–until I spotted Sebastian and Edmund walking into the building together, 

Behind them followed several people holding up phones, clearly livestreaming. 

I took a deep breath. “Both suspects are currently at my company. The address is…”
