Ch. Lock Me In The Basement? 11 Lock Me In The Basement? 11

Chapter 2

At night, I didn’t sleep very well and woke up covered in sticky sweat.

When it was just getting light, Christian dragged me out of bed.

I muttered and pushed him away, but he laughed and leaned in to kiss my lips.

All drowsiness instantly vanished, and I almost instinctively wanted to slap, but I held back.

Luckily, he was just a touch away.

“Did you wake up, my sleeping beauty?”

I turned away, wiping my mouth in disgust.

“Today was the weekend, why didn’t they let people sleep?”

Christian looked helpless, “Do you know that you had a fever last night? Get up, I’ll take you to the hospital.”

Although I thought I was fine, I couldn’t resist him and had to obediently get up.

In the hospital corridor, Vanessa was unexpectedly bumped into.

She seemed to have hurt her foot and was walking with difficulty in the corridor alone.

Christian’s face, which was gentle just a moment ago, instantly tightened with a furrowed brow.

He seemed to have forgotten about me by his side and quickly walked a few steps to go straight to Vanessa.

He nervously asked her, “What’s wrong with you?”

Vanessa smiled at him and looked at me, her eyes passing over him.

“I just sprained my foot. What a coincidence, are you guys here to see a doctor too?”

Christian paused for a moment, then turned around to give me a glance, his eyes flickering.

“Well, my sister had a slight fever, so I brought her to see a doctor.”

I had long been accustomed to the title of “sister” for my younger sister.

From the moment Christian decided not to make it public, whenever he saw his friends, he would only

introduce me as his brother’s sister, asking them to take care of me.

And only those closest to him knew about the relationship between him and me.

Vanessa nodded, “The little girl staying at your house needs a little more care, so you guys go quickly, I’m

going over there.”

She spoke and pointed to the outpatient department on the other side.

Seeing her about to skip away, Christian didn’t hesitate and picked her up horizontally.

“Let me take you over there first, Renee. Wait for me here for a while.”

I don’t know why, but the moment I saw Vanessa, I suddenly felt uncomfortable, weak, and completely

drained of energy.

I leaned against the wall and didn’t reply.

Christian didn’t even ask for my opinion. After saying this, he had already taken Vanessa and went to another

clinic department.

Look, a performance is just a performance. No matter how good the disguise is, at the moment of meeting Vanessa, true emotions will always be revealed, exposing the truth.

Unfortunately, Christian was unaware.

I forced a bitter smile, turned around, and walked towards my clinic. It turned out that it wasn’t just my imagination. After measuring my body temperature, I had a high fever of 41.3 degrees.

It was because I didn’t treat the burn properly and my recent bad mood led to the invasion of the virus, causing an infection that required intravenous fluid.

I habitually took out my phone, intending to call Christian, but my fingers stopped before dialing.

Habit is truly a terrifying thing!

I chuckled at myself, put away my phone, and went to get the medicine alone, and then went to the infusion

point.

After finishing the infusion, I felt even dizzier. I took a few steps and almost fell to the ground.

Christian had not returned yet, not even a phone call, not even a message.

Not wanting to cause any misunderstandings, I had to take the initiative to call him.

When Christian heard that I was still in the hospital, he was momentarily stunned.

“Sorry, Renee. I was planning to drop Vanessa off at home and come back to pick you up immediately, but she had a stomachache, so…”

But as soon as he finished speaking, the voice of the waitress came from the phone, “Sir, your dishes have

been served, I wish you both a pleasant meal!”

Although Christian quickly covered the receiver, I still managed to hear the entire conversation.

“It’s okay, I can do it alone!”

I said to myself, and also to Christian.

Just as I was about to hang up the phone, Christian suddenly called my name, “Renee, you go back first, I’ll explain to you later.”

What is it to explain? It is nothing more than deceiving me with one lie after another.

I hung up the phone without expressing any opinion and found a delivery guy to take me home.

However, Christian did not come back that night.

I was disturbed by the fireworks outside the window and couldn’t fall asleep, so I took out my tablet and continued drawing the custom jewelry sketch for my client.

Accidentally touching the chat software in the bottom right corner, a Tweet updated from one hour ago

caught my eye.

That was posted by Vanessa, a beautiful scene of fireworks filling the night sky, accompanied by sentimental

words.

“After half a lifetime of wandering, I returned to you, and the fireworks were still as brilliant as ever, not disappointing your warm welcome!”

I was stunned for a while, and only when I left did I realize that the chat software on the tablet was

Christian’s.

I had no interest in browsing through their ambiguity, so I simply closed the chat app on my tablet.
