Chapter 6
He went quiet for a second.
He probably thought I’d loved him for five years, given in to him for five years.
That even canceling the wedding was just me trying to force him to give in.
So he was angry.
Not because he’d hurt me. Because he felt humiliated. Played.
The one thing that never crossed his mind: I was actually done with him.
I said:
“You don’t need to calm anyone down.”
“I already gave them an explanation.”
Sean’s voice turned wary.
“What do you mean?”
I didn’t answer. I just hung up.
Then I opened my social media and posted what I’d already prepared.
No long explanation. Just three screenshots.
The first one: the AI program interface on Sean’s computer.
The second one: his chat with Emma.
Emma had asked: Won’t Nora mind you staying at a hot spring resort with me the day before your wedding?
Sean replied: She won’t throw a fit for long. The wedding’s too close. She won’t have the heart to cancel it.
The third screenshot: the venue cancellation confirmation.
Dated five days ago.
Chapter 6
At the bottom, I wrote one line:
[Wedding canceled. Not my fault. Enjoy your meal. Get your gift money back from the groom.]
Less than a minute after I posted it, my phone started buzzing like crazy.
This time, it wasn’t just Sean’s family calling.
My own relatives too.
My cousin messaged me first.
[Nora, are you okay? Where are you?]
My aunt: [Honey, you should’ve told us this was why. We all support you.]
A few mutual friends, shocked and awkward:
[Sean actually used an AI to text you back? That’s insane.]
[What’s going on with him and Emma?]
[The venue was a total disaster today.]
I didn’t reply to most of them.
Just sent my cousin a quick message: [I’m fine. Don’t worry.]
A second later, Sean called again.
His voice came through clenched teeth.
“Nora, delete that post.”
“Why?”
“Why? Are you serious?”
He was barely holding it together.
“You knew those screenshots would embarrass Emma. Why would you post them?”
“She’s a woman. How is she supposed to face anyone after this?”
I listened. My hand slowly tightened around the phone.
Chapter 6
So he knew what embarrassment felt like.
He knew what it was like for a woman to be put on display and talked about. How humiliating that was.
But he didn’t think I was embarrassed when I went to try on wedding dresses six times alone.
He didn’t think I was embarrassed when he went running with Emma on our wedding day.
He didn’t think I was embarrassed when I sat at a table full of seafood I couldn’t eat while his family planned my
wedding menu.
My embarrassment was never worth mentioning to him.
I said quietly:
“Then she should hide.”
“You’ve been protecting her for years. You should be good at it by now.”
Sean’s breathing went heavy.
“Nora, you’re going to regret this.”
I smiled.
“Your AI already said that to me yesterday.”
“Didn’t work then either.”
I hung up.
This time, I didn’t give him a chance to call from another number.
I turned my phone off.
The world finally went quiet.
I got dressed and went downstairs for breakfast.
The hotel restaurant had a lot of foods.
Finally, no almond or seafood I couldn’t eat.
I kept my phone off for three days. The world stayed quiet.
During those three days, I found an apartment, bought a new phone, and got a local SIM card.

Chapter 6
On the fourth night, I finally turned my old phone back on.
As expected, my inbox was flooded with missed calls and messages.
