Monday morning, nine o’clock. I got to the office. 

Ten-twenty-Zoe from the front desk called my extension. 

“Hey Diana, there’s a guy down here saying he’s your husband.” 

I gripped the phone without moving. 

“Should I send him up?” 

“No. I’ll come down.” 

The elevator ride felt like it lasted forever. 

Eric was standing by the lobby couch holding a coffee cup, his suit perfectly pressed. 

“How long are you planning to keep this up?” 

He held out the coffee toward me. I didn’t take it. 

“Waited in line twenty minutes for that.” 

I stepped to the side. He followed. 

“Look, the password thing-that was my fault. I changed everything last night.” 

“Changed it to what?” 

“0521. Our wedding anniversary.” 

I looked straight at him. 

“Last night you changed it back to 0912 first. Now you’re saying it’s 0521? How many times did you actually change it?” 

His jaw clenched tight. 

“Okay fine-yeah, I changed it back to 0912 first. Then I thought about it more and switched it again.” 

“Right. So your first instinct was still 0912. It takes five seconds to change a password. Took you an entire night to figure it out.” 

Chapter 5 

“You okay?” 

“I’m fine.” 

I opened my laptop and went back to my spreadsheet. My hands were shaking a little but I kept the mouse steady. 

Four PM-my phone lit up with a text from an unknown number. 

Hi, is this Diana? 

This is Jenna.
