Chapter 7
Evan didn’t leave France.
He stuck around, lurking near campus parks and cafés. Watched me from a distance but kept away.
I ignored him and focused on my work with Aaron-attending seminars, refining lesson plans, building the career I actually wanted.
Then Gina showed up.
No clue how she found Evan, but when they saw each other? Total chaos.
Aaron and I were walking home through the park when we heard yelling. A crowd had gathered.
“You LIAR! You said you loved me! Said you’d dump Claire for ME! So why are you still chasing her?!”
Gina looked crazy. Makeup smeared everywhere, hair like a bird’s nest.
Evan’s face twisted with anger.
“YOU wanna talk about lying? You faked that letter! Got me kicked out of the country! Ruined everything!
“I was stupid to trust you. You’re selfish. You only wanted me because I was a teacher. You never actually cared.”
Gina laughed like she’d lost her mind.
“Oh, and YOU’RE so perfect? You only treated me nice because you felt bad about Claire! I was just her replacement! You never loved me-you only love YOURSELF!”
“And guess what? Claire’s NEVER taking you back. She’s got a boyfriend now. Someone way better than you. You’re
just a sad loser!”
Evan’s hand shot up.
Gina dodged and shoved him hard. He fell, landing in the mud.
“Don’t you touch me!” She pulled out her phone. “I’ve got photos. Videos. Messages of you TELLING me to fake that letter. I’ll post it ALL online. Everyone will know what you did.”
Evan jumped up, grabbed for her phone. “You do that and I’ll—”
Chapter 7
They crashed together, pulling hair and ripping clothes, screaming ugly words at each other.
People pulled out phones. Started recording.
Aaron and I stood nearby, watching quietly.
I felt… nothing. No pity. No joy.
Just glad I wasn’t part of that nightmare anymore.
Police sirens cut through the noise. Someone had called them in.
Officers pulled them apart and loaded them into the car for fighting in public.
Later, I heard Gina actually posted everything online.
Pictures. Videos. Text messages.
Evan got destroyed. Everyone saw what he’d done.
His school found out and fired him right away. Started looking into other bad stuff he’d done.
Gina didn’t get off easy either. Police charged her for faking documents and lying about people. She got fined, banned from teaching, and ordered to stay away from everyone involved.
Evan lost it all. His job. His good name. Even his parents got so stressed they ended up in the hospital.
He tried contacting me one last time, begging me to forgive him.
But I’d blocked every way he could reach me months ago.
Never saw him again.
Aaron held my hand gently.
“It’s all over now. I’m here. Nobody’s gonna hurt you like that again.”
I looked at him-his kind eyes, his warmth-and smiled.
A real smile. The kind I hadn’t felt in forever.
Yeah. It was finally over.
The hurt, the shame, all those wasted years-behind me now.
And for the first time in so long, I was ready to move on.
