My fiancé, Jensen Hettler, vanished just as the wedding was about to begin 

At the same time, my mother posted a video in our family group chat. 

In the video, Jensen was down on one knee, proposing to my cousin. 

The room full of relatives cheered and clapped, and my father stood beside them, grinning from ear to ear 

I took off my veil, ready to go demand an explanation, when my mother suddenly tagged me in the chat. 

[Mina is your cousin, and she grew up letting you have your way with everything. It’s your turn to give in to her.] 

With trembling hands, I called her to demand why everyone had kept me in the dark. 

“It’s only because you’ve always been so petty,” my mother said, acting as if it were completely justified. 

“If we had told you earlier, how could the two of them have ended up together?” 

“Listen to me. You have a lot going for you, so you can just find someone else later.” 

“We’re a family. Don’t make such an ugly scene over a man.” 

I opened my mouth, but not a single word came out. 

It turned out that not only was my relationship a lie, but my own family was, too. 

I stumbled back to the dressing room and texted Jensen to call off the wedding. 

He called me back instantly. 

“Everlee, haven’t you had enough of this tantrum? Mina slit her wrists. Are you really going to fuss over a mere formality right now?” 

I looked at myself in the mirror, wearing the wedding dress. 

I realized my past seven years had been a complete joke. 

When I remained silent, Jensen sighed, softening his tone slightly. 

“The doctor said she has severe depression, and her only fixation is wanting to wear a wedding dress and marry me just once.”

I looked at our wedding rings on the table and said nothing. 

Jensen grew a bit impatient. “Hello? Everlee, are you listening?” 

finally spoke, calmly stating the facts. “Jensen, today is our seventh anniversary, and the wedding we spent 

six months planning…” 

“I know,” Jensen interrupted. “But a life is at stake here. You’re well-off and mentally stable. Even if we don’t 

hold the wedding today, you’re still my fiancée.” 

“But Mina is different. She has nothing. She only has me. If you really love me, you should understand my 

difficult position.” 

Just then, my mother’s voice drifted through the line. 

“Jensen, why bother wasting your breath on that ungrateful wretch? She just can’t stand to see her cousin 

happy.” 

“Mina grew up without parents and lived with us. I said long ago that I would love her like my own daughter.” 

“This wedding is happening for Mina today, no matter what.” 

“If Everlee dares to come make a scene, she is no longer my daughter.” 

I hung up the phone. 

I slowly took off the wedding dress and tossed it onto the sofa. 

The bridesmaid pushed the door open, looking at me cautiously. “Everlee, the guests outside are asking why 

the groom hasn’t arrived yet.” 

“He’s not coming.” I picked up a cotton pad and soaked it with makeup remover. 

“What?” The bridesmaid’s eyes widened. 

“He’s next door in the other hall, proposing to Mina.” 

I wiped the lipstick off my lips bit by bit. 

In the mirror, my face looked pale.
