Chapter 4 

I didn’t text Dashiell back, 

and he didn’t bother messaging me again either. 

Maybe he figured I’d just take care of everything like always. 

If I hadn’t found that marriage certificate, 

I probably would’ve changed the flight and waited at the gate like an idiot. 

But now, all of it just made me sick. 

I booked a brand–new ticket–this time for a solo trip overseas. 

And while I was gone, 

I blocked Dashiell on everything. 

I stayed abroad for about two weeks, 

just trying to breathe again. 

Before I flew back, 

I sent my flight info to my parents. 

What I didn’t expect- 

was Dashiell showing up at the airport. 

The moment I stepped into the arrivals hall, 

he stormed up with a scowl and started yelling. 

“Seraphina, I got stuck at work, okay? That’s all! 

You seriously ghosted me for two weeks over that?” 

“You planning on throwing our whole future away over a damn delay?” 

In the past, whenever he’d threatened to break up, 

I would fold in seconds.

It felt like the end of the world.

Now, I looked him dead in the eye, 

calm as ever, while people hurried past us in the terminal. 

“You’re right,” I said. 

“We should break up.” 

Dashiell froze, his brow tightening. 

“Seraphina, what the hell are you saying?” 

“It’s been two weeks–aren’t you over this yet?” 

Over it? 

It had taken me two weeks just to breathe again. 

To stop crying long enough to book a return flight. 

To look him in the eye and not break. 

But in his mind, I was just being dramatic? 

“We’re done, Dashiell.”
