Ch. SECRET KID `37 SECRET KID `37

Chapter 9

Dashiell didn’t do what I told him to.

People from my family kept asking, so I just sent them a photo of the marriage certificate.

I told them Dashiell and I had broken up.

Everyone was stunned.

There’s no faking the date on a legal document–he’d married someone else two months ago.

Only then did they realize he’d been lying to all of us.

They were furious, saying they’d help me get justice.

I turned them down.

I’d already decided to cut ties completely.

No point stirring things up any further.

But Dashiell didn’t give up.

A few days later, his mom actually showed up at my place.

She sat across from me with this fake sweet smile plastered on her face.

“Sera, I admit my son made a mistake.”

“But are you really going to throw away seven years just like that?”

“He just had a lapse in judgment.”

“If you forgive him, he’ll divorce her and come back to you.”

I’d been with Dashiell for seven years.

Mrs. Davis had definitely benefited plenty from me over the years.

Every holiday, I bought her vitamins and skincare.

I even got her a VIP membership at one of the top spas in town.

I treated her well–like a real future mother–in–law.

Of course, she was his mother. Of course she’d take his side.

I didn’t expect her to warn me ahead of time.

But the fact that she knew the truth all along, and still came here to defend him-

That was just low.

“Mrs. Davis, between me and Anna, who treated you better?”

“Because I saw the video from the wedding.”

“You looked pretty damn pleased when she served you tea.”

She probably didn’t realize I’d seen the wedding footage,

She was there, smiling like she’d won the lottery.

Her face turned bright red.

She lowered her head like she wanted to disappear into the floor.

“Mrs. Davis, you’re Dashiell’s mom.”

“I wasn’t even officially part of your family yet, but I always treated you with respect.”

“I didn’t expect you to betray your own son.”

“But you knew the truth and still let me walk into this blind. Isn’t that just cruel?”

Mrs. Davis pressed her lips together and sighed.

“Sera, I’m sorry. You’re right.”

“I didn’t handle it well.”

“My son messed up, I won’t deny that.”

“I know this is all on him, but as his mother… it’s hard for me to watch him suffer.”

“I can tell he still cares about you.”

“Can’t you give him one more chance?”

I gave a soft laugh and looked her in the eye.

“Mrs. Davis, if Mr. Davis had secretly married another woman behind your back, would you give him another

chance?”

She went silent.

I didn’t wait for her to answer.

I stood up and walked away.

Chapter 9

Whether she said anything to Dashiell after that–I didn’t care anymore.

He didn’t try to contact me again, at least not in person.

He just sent me a message asking me to come get my stuff.

I replied, “Throw it all out. Don’t contact me again.”
