The Diary Of An Unloved Wife Chapter 12

Over these years, the lawyer I retained in Boston told me more than once that Beckett refused to divorce.

Every time the court tried to schedule a hearing, his lawyers would throw out a new motion—first jurisdiction, then the division of trust assets.

And in these five years, I hadn’t returned to Boston a single time, nor had I attended a single hearing.

The result was that five years had passed, and I was still legally Beckett’s wife.

I originally didn’t care.

He was clinging to nothing but a piece of paper, so I let him cling to it.

But now, I had met someone I wanted to spend the rest of my life with, so I had to return to Boston and divorce Beckett.

When the plane landed at Logan Airport, my lawyer was waiting for me in the arrivals hall.

He looked resigned, too.

“The legal team Beckett hired is one of the top in the country. They keep using asset division to file new motions and drag the case through round after round of hearings, just refusing to let this reach a ruling.”

A strong wave of annoyance flashed in my eyes.

“Alright, I understand. Thank you for your hard work these past years. I’ll pay double your legal fees.”

I didn’t go to the hotel and went straight to the cemetery.

Because I had been avoiding everything for the past five years, I hadn’t come to visit them once.

Running away for so long really wasn’t justifiable.

I bought my dad’s favorite wine and my mom’s favorite flowers.

And walked step by step up to the highest point.

As soon as I arrived, my gaze froze in surprise.

My dad’s tombstone had changed.

It was no longer the tombstone with Harlow’s name from five years ago; it only had my name on it.

My eyes flickered. Who did this?

Beckett?

As soon as I thought of him, I immediately denied it. It could be anyone but him. His coercion from five years ago was still vivid in my mind, and thinking of him only brought disgust.

Forget it.

I didn’t dwell on it and placed the flowers and wine in front of the tombstone.

Looking at the yellowed photo on it, my throat suddenly tightened.

“Dad, Mom, it’s my fault for taking so long to come see you.”

My voice was a little choked up.

I took a deep breath to collect my emotions and continued.

“But don’t worry, I’m doing really well. I met someone who treats me with true sincerity. Next time, I’ll bring him to see you.”

“As for Felix and Beckett… Dad, I’ve disappointed you. You took them in and raised them, thinking I would have someone to rely on in the future. Unfortunately, neither of them was that person.”

I rambled on for a long time.

Until my legs went numb.

I stumbled as I stood up, my legs giving out.

Just as I thought I was going to fall, I suddenly fell into a warm but unfamiliar embrace.

A suppressed murmur reached my ears.

“Iris…”
