Ryan asked, “Honey, didn’t you say you really appreciated my thoughtfulness?” 

I finally lifted my eyes to look at him. “I didn’t sleep well last night. I woke up sore all over. Do you know 

why?” 

For the sake of our three-year relationship and the little life in my womb, I was giving him one last chance. 

Ryan’s eyes flickered for a moment, then he coaxed gently. “Pregnant women probably get tired easily. Honey, 

let me schedule you some prenatal care.” 

I laughed maniacally and smashed the couple’s clay sculpture he’d made for our third anniversary. 

Ryan stared at the fragments for a long time before hesitantly speaking, “Are you in a bad mood because pregnancy is uncomfortable?” 

I shook my head and slipped the divorce papers between a stack of teaching materials, pushing them toward 

him. 

Without even looking, he signed and used his fingertip to gently massage my head. “How about I run you a 

hot bath to relax?” 

My stomach churned. 

These were the same hands that had just scattered my intimate photos in the pool hall. 

This was the same mouth that had called me damaged goods. 

I suddenly said, “I agree to let Jessica be the maid of honor.” 

Hearing my words, Ryan’s movements stopped. “Why the sudden change of heart?” 

“I thought about it and realized I was being too petty.” I forced a smile. “Besides, she’s your mother’s savior. I 

shouldn’t have been so selfish.” 

Mentioning his mother, Ryan stopped hesitating and hugged me tight. “Emily, you’re so understanding! If 

Jessica hadn’t carried my mom ten miles to get help, my mom couldn’t even be in a vegetative state…” 

I frowned without speaking. 

After the car accident, his mother Margaret had been unconscious, and the events of that day remained 

unclear. 

He continued, “Don’t worry! I’ll take leave to stay with you during your pregnancy and take good care of you and the baby!” 

Just then, Ryan’s phone buzzed twice. 

He released me and quickly walked to the balcony, where the security footage showed Ryan coaxing in a low
