Chapter 44
Seeing this, Sylvie’s expression turned noticeably darker.
Nova decided the timing was perfect. She stood up and announced casually, “It doesn’t look like lunch is coming anytime soon. I have some things to take care of at home, so I’m going to take off. Have fun, everyone.”
Her words immediately stirred up the rest of the classmates.
They had been sitting around for hours without so much as a warm cup of tea.
Sylvie tried to stop her, but Nova had already grabbed her suitcase and was waving goodbye/ to the crowd.
Just then, a luxury car pulled up outside the gates. Everyone assumed their lunch had finally arrived, but to their utter shock, the person stepping out of the vehicle was Alaric Langdon.
Holding an umbrella, Alaric walked right up to Nova, smoothly shielding her from the harsh
sun.
Standing side by side in the daylight, Alaric and Nova looked like a picture-perfect couple.
The classmates practically strained their necks trying to get a better look.
“Holy shit, is that a Maybach?”
“Why would Alaric Langdon personally come pick up Nova? Are they dating?”
“I have no idea, but Nova’s background definitely doesn’t look like a charity case anymore.”
“How could she be poor? She was casually handing out designer watches that cost tens of thousands of dollars!”
The gossip echoed around the room. This time, even Tina started to severely doubt Nova’s supposed background.
“She really doesn’t look like a chauffeur’s daughter. Sylvie, are you sure you didn’t get your facts completely wrong?”
“Yeah, and now that you look closely, she’s actually really pretty now that she’s lost weight.”
“What do you mean ‘really pretty’? She’s drop-dead gorgeous!”
The constant chattering grated terribly on Sylvie’s nerves. She stared down at her phone, utterly unable to comprehend why Caleb was ignoring her calls. What she didn’t know was that, miles away in the Langdon residence, Caleb was sitting in the living room, staring blankly at his phone on the coffee table.
Mrs. Langdon had lost track of how many times she had reheated the food. Her face was ice cold as she snapped, “When Nova gets here, you better fix your attitude!”

Chapter 44
“Mom, I don’t even like Nova! I have a girlfriend!”
“What girlfriend? Let me make this clear, Caleb Langdon. You can fool around with those other girls on the side, but Nova is the only one fit to marry into this family!”
Mrs. Langdon snatched his phone off the table. Glancing at the bags of lobster and caviar he had tried to sneak out of their own kitchen, she spat coldly, “You need to dump that little girlfriend of yours right now! Encouraging you to steal from your own home at her age-what kind of trash is she?”
Hearing this, Caleb’s face darkened with anger. “Mom, Sylvie is a good girl! I won’t let you talk about her like that!”
“Good girl? She’s just looking at our money, trying to climb the social ladder! I’ve seen a million girls exactly like her. Only an idiot like you would fall for trash like that!”
Mrs. Langdon glared at him, furious at his utter incompetence. “We are at the end of our rope! The Donald family pulled their investments, and your father’s entire legacy is about to go under! If you still want to be the young heir of this family, you better start kissing the ground Nova walks on and marry her before it’s too late!”
Just as Mrs. Langdon was busy berating him, a knock echoed from the front door.
Instantly straightening her posture, Mrs. Langdon plastered on a warm, welcoming smile and hurried to open it. But instead of Nova, she was greeted by Mr. Donald’s secretary.
“You are…”
“Mrs. Langdon, I apologize for the intrusion. Our young lady had an urgent matter come up and won’t be able to make it today, so she specifically asked me to come let you know.”
“What? She’s not coming?”
