For years, I had believed I was the only surviving child of my parents. Then I learned there had been another vessel, a sister whose existence had been erased from the records.
Now I was standing outside a building where she had supposedly been hidden, trying to prepare myself for the possibility that the woman inside was really her.
Damian stayed beside me as Rhys led us through the damaged settlement.
The building looked abandoned from the outside. Its windows were covered, the walls were worn, and weeds had grown around the entrance. But the moment I stepped through the doorway, my wolf reacted.
She pushed forward so quickly that my breathing changed.
“She’s here.”
I stopped.
Damian looked at me. “You feel her?”
I nodded. “My wolf does.”
Her presence was faint, but I could feel another wolf somewhere inside the building. It was familiar in a way I could not explain.
“Blood,” my wolf whispered.
We moved deeper into the building.
The air changed near the inner hallway. Thin lines had been carved into the walls and floor, forming old protective wards.
Some were almost faded, but others still carried enough wolf energy that I could feel them through my skin.
Damian crouched beside one of the markings.
“These are old.”
“Can you tell what they do?”
“Protection. Concealment too. Whoever built this place didn’t want anyone tracking the wolf

We followed the markings until they led us to a heavy wooden door. Damian reached for the handle.
The wards flashed.
He pulled his hand back. A low growl came from behind the door.
My wolf answered before I could stop her.
“Open it.”
The lock clicked.
The door moved slowly, and I saw her.
She stood at the far end of the room with her back against the wall.
She looked almost exactly like the woman in the security image, but seeing her in person was different. She had my eyes, my mother’s face, and the same dark hair.
Her wolf was awake beneath her skin.
She stared at me without moving.
“Flourish,” she said.
Hearing my name from her mouth made my stomach tighten.
“You know me.”
“I know exactly who you are.”
Damian stepped slightly in front of me.
She immediately bared her teeth.
“Don’t.”
Damian stopped, but his wolf was already pushing against him. I could see the change in his
eyes.
“She isn’t going to hurt you,” he said.
“I wasn’t talking about her. I’m talking about you.”

I touched Damian’s arm. “It’s fine.”
He looked at me before stepping back.
:
The woman watched the movement carefully. “You trust him.”
“Yes.”
She seemed surprised.
I looked at her again. “What’s your name?”
Her expression changed.

“They called me different names after they took me away. The name our mother gave me was Elara.”
Elara.
My sister had a name.
I swallowed. “Why didn’t you come back?”
Her eyes hardened. “Because our father made sure I couldn’t.”
I took a step toward her.
She immediately moved away.
“Don’t come closer.”
I stopped.
“He separated us on purpose,” she said. “It wasn’t because he thought one of us was safer somewhere else. He knew what would happen if both bloodline vessels were raised together.”
“What would happen?”
“We could activate something.”
“Something?”
“The First Alpha bloodline wasn’t created only to produce heirs. There was another part of it. An old inheritance that neither side fully understood anymore.”
I frowned. “What kind of inheritance?”

“I don’t know. Neither did he. The records were incomplete, and the elders were afraid of what they found. They believed that if the two vessels came together, the bloodline might activate on its own.”
“That doesn’t explain why you had to disappear.”
“It explains why they were afraid.”
She folded her arms. “Our father chose to separate us before either of us could reach the age where our wolves became fully awakened. You were kept where people could watch you. I was sent somewhere no one could easily find.”
“Yet Voss found out about you.”
“He didn’t find me.”
Her answer made me pause.
“He has been searching for me for years,” she continued. “His people searched settlements, old pack territories, medical records, and transport routes. They killed people who refused to tell them where I was.”
My hands tightened.
“How did you survive?”
“People protected me. Some were loyal to our mother. Others were loyal to the old bloodline network. The wards around this place were maintained by wolves who believed I should never be handed over.”
“And Voss kept searching?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because he knows what I am.”
I stared at her. “The second vessel.”
She nodded.
“And he thinks finding you will give him access to whatever this bloodline can activate.”
“He wants more than that.”
“What does he want?”

Elara’s eyes shifted toward the doorway before returning to mine.
“Voss isn’t the one running everything.”
The words made me glance at Damian.
She continued. “He has power, connections, soldiers, and money. But he has lost too much over the years. His influence has been broken before. His resources have been taken. His allies have turned against him.”
“That has never stopped him,” I said.
“Exactly.”
She looked directly at me.
“Because someone keeps replacing what he loses.”
My mouth went dry.
“The Eastern Army,” I said.
“They are only one part of it.”
“Then who gives him the resources?”
“I don’t know every name. I know enough to understand that Voss answers to someone.”
Damian’s expression hardened.
“That would explain everything,” he said.
Elara nodded. “Every time Voss loses ground, the people above him make sure he gets another chance. Every time his operation is exposed, another branch appears somewhere else. You think you’re fighting the same enemy over and over because you keep finding him.”
I stared at her.
“But you’re not fighting the same enemy.”
“Then who are we fighting?”
She didn’t answer immediately.
My wolf moved closer to the surface.

“Ask her.”
I stepped forward despite her warning.
“Who is behind it?”
Elara looked at me for a long moment.
Then she looked at Damian.
His male wolf reacted instantly.

A deep growl came from his chest, and his eyes shifted as his wolf took over. His body moved in front of mine before he seemed to realize he had done it.
Elara’s wolf bared her teeth.
“Damian,” I said.
He didn’t move.
Elara looked past him and met my eyes again.
“You keep looking for Voss because he wants you to.”
I felt the room go quiet.
Her voice dropped.
“The person who started this war has been standing beside your family for years.”
