Chapter 348 Damian Doesn’t Like The Distance
Alpha Damian POV
By the time I returned to our quarters, Flourish was still at F-Tech.

I had expected her to come home after approving the first planning brief for the international emergency network, but Rhys had called with another update from the overseas pack.
The evacuation team was still waiting for confirmation of a safe entry route, and Flourish wanted to review every detail herself.
I understood why. The records we had uncovered showed how many packs had been left without reliable contact or support.
If we built this system properly, wolves outside our territories would have somewhere to turn when their own resources failed them.
That didn’t mean I had to like how much of her time it was taking.
I showered, changed, and ate the meal the kitchen had sent up. Her portion sat untouched on the table, covered to keep it warm. I sent a message asking whether she planned to come back soon, but she replied that she needed another hour.
An hour became two.
I tried to read through the reports waiting for my attention, but I kept checking my phone.
My wolf paced inside me, reacting to the empty space beside me in a way that made it difficult
to concentrate.
“She’ll come back,” I muttered.
‘Bring her home.’
“I am not going to drag my wife out of her office.”
My wolf gave me no answer, but the irritation remained.
I could have gone to F-Tech and brought her dinner myself.
I could also have ordered Rhys to send the remaining work to her team and insisted she leave. Both options would have made me feel better for a few minutes, but neither would solve the problem between us.
Flourish had a right to care about the work. She had built her place at F-Tech through years of

effort, and I wasn’t going to become the sort of husband who expected his wife to abandon everything whenever he wanted her attention.
Still, I missed her.
I missed the ordinary parts of our marriage that had nothing to do with bloodline records, pack threats, or decisions that could affect hundreds of wolves. I missed eating with her without one of our phones ringing.
I missed the way she complained when I stole food from her plate, and how she sometimes kept talking about her day even after I had already heard most of it.
Lately, our conversations had become lists of problems to solve.
When my phone rang again, I answered before the second ring.
“Damian,” Flourish said. “I’m sorry. The overseas contact finally responded, but their message raised more questions about the evacuation route.”
“Are you coming home tonight?”
There was a pause. “Yes. I just need to finish reviewing the new information.”
“How long?”
“I don’t know yet.”
I closed my eyes briefly. “Flourish, you’ve been saying that since this afternoon.”
“I know, and I’m trying to finish. I can’t leave the team waiting when they’re preparing to enter another pack’s territory.”
“I understand the responsibility. I’m asking when I’ll see my wife.”
Her voice softened, but I could still hear the strain in it. “I’ll come home as soon as I can.”
We ended the call without arguing, which somehow left me with nothing useful to do with my frustration.
I waited another thirty minutes before deciding that I wasn’t going to spend the entire night staring at my phone. I drove to F-Tech, informing the guards at the estate that I would return with Flourish when she was ready.
The security team recognized my vehicle at the entrance. One of the guards opened the gate while another informed Rhys that I had arrived.
I could smell the wolves on duty as I walked through the building, and several straightened

when they sensed my Alpha presence.
Rhys met me outside the operations room.

“She hasn’t taken a proper break,” he told me. “We’ve been going through the overseas records and setting up the first stage of the emergency system.”
“Has she eaten?”
He hesitated.
“Rhys.”
“She had a sandwich earlier.”
I stared at him.
“I’m aware that isn’t enough,” he added. “I’ve been trying to get her to stop, but she wants to check the revised plan before it goes to the team.”
I went into the room and found Flourish leaning over a desk, comparing two reports. Her hair was tied back, and she had removed her shoes beneath the desk. A cup of tea stood near her elbow, long forgotten.
She looked up when I entered. “What are you doing here?”
“Taking you home.”
“I told you I was coming.”
“You also told me you needed another hour. That was hours ago.”
She glanced at the clock, then at the reports. “Damian, I really need to finish this.”
“And I need you to stop treating sleep and food as things you can postpone indefinitely.”
Her eyebrows rose. “I’m not doing this for fun.”
“I know that.” I lowered my voice when two members of her team looked in our direction. “I’m not asking you to abandon the work. I’m asking you to remember that you have a life outside this room.”
She looked away and rubbed her forehead. For a moment, I thought she would argue again, but instead she closed the report in front of her.
“The revised plan needs one final approval,” she said. “Rhys can handle it if the overseas contact confirms the route.”

“Then let him handle it.”
She studied my face. “You really came all the way here because you missed me?”
“Yes.”
The answer seemed to catch her off guard. She looked at me for several seconds before a small smile appeared.
“I miss you too,” she admitted. “I just keep thinking that if I leave something unfinished, another pack might pay for it.”
“I know what you’re trying to do, Flourish. I’m proud of you for it. But you don’t have to carry every part of this alone.”
She reached for my hand, her fingers slipping between mine. I squeezed gently, careful not to make the moment another demand she had to answer.
Rhys approached with an update. The overseas team had received a response from a local contact, and he could continue coordinating the next steps while Flourish reviewed everything in the morning. She asked him two questions, gave her approval for the immediate arrangements, and finally shut down her workstation.
As we left, my wolf grew quieter. Flourish stayed close to me in the lift, leaning against my arm while she read the last message on her phone.
“Tomorrow,” I told her, “we’re having breakfast together. No reports on the table.”
She slipped her phone into her bag. “And if the overseas pack calls?”
“Rhys answers first.”
She laughed softly. “You’re going to have to get used to sharing me with F-Tech.”
“I can share you with your work,” I said, taking her hand as we stepped outside. “I just don’t want to become a stranger in my own marriage.”
Her smile faded into a more thoughtful expression, and she moved closer as we walked to the
car.
“I don’t want that either,” she said.
For once, when my phone rang on the drive home, I let it ring until we reached the estate. Flourish rested her head against my shoulder, and I kept one hand over hers.
The international network could wait until morning. Tonight, I wanted my wife beside me, and
