Chapter 364 The Wolf Who Tried To Run
Alpha Damian POV
I was still in Flourish’s office when Rhys called with an update on the Veylan investigation.

“The suspect has made several calls since leaving F-Tech,” he said. “One of them was routed throus the same temporary relay we detected last night. I haven’t identified the recipient, but the suspect has st requested transport out of Stonehedge.”
“Where are they now?”
“At their residence. Their vehicle left three minutes ago.”
I looked at Flourish. She had been reviewing the transfer records, but she closed the folder when she heard Rhys’s report.
“They’re running,” she said.
“Or someone has told them they’re in danger.”
“Either way, we can’t let them disappear before we get that envelope.”
I contacted the warriors stationed near the estate and ordered them to track the vehicle without approaching it. Then I grabbed my jacket and headed for the door.
Flourish followed me into the corridor.
“Damian, don’t turn this into a pack-wide hunt,” she warned. “We need the suspect alive and willing to talk.”
“I know what we need.”
“Then remember it when you find them.”
I stopped long enough to take her hand. “I’ll bring them back. If they surrender, no one touches them.”
She held my gaze before releasing me. “Call me when you have them.”
I left with two Dartwood warriors in a vehicle, following the location Rhys sent to my phone.
The suspect had taken the eastern road, which ran along the outer boundary of the estate before reaching the main territory road.
If they continued in that direction, they would have to cross one of our ward lines.
Our wards weren’t walls a person could see. They were maintained through old pack magic, reinforced by the scents and energy of the wolves who guarded the territory.
A stranger could cross with permission, but anyone trying to force their way through would trigger an alert.

The suspect knew the route. That bothered me more than the speed of their vehicle.
“Can you get ahead of them?” I asked the warrior driving.
“I’m trying, Alpha.”

My wolf pushed against my skin, impatient with the delay. I kept it under control while Rhys senmother update.
“The vehicle has stopped near the eastern boundary. The suspect got out and is heading toward the wards
on foot.”
“They’re abandoning the vehicle?”
“Yes. They may have spotted the patrol.”
I ordered the warriors to secure the road and continued on foot.
The trees were thick near the boundary, and the ground was uneven, but my wolf could track the suspect’s scent through the undergrowth.
Fear and sweat marked their path, mixed with the smell of the vehicle’s exhaust.
I heard movement ahead.
The suspect broke through a line of shrubs and saw me waiting near the ward markers. For a second, they stood still. Then they turned and ran.
“Stop!” I shouted.
They ignored me.
My wolf surged forward. I shifted before they reached the boundary, bones moving beneath my skin as fur spread over my body.
The change was painful only for a moment. Once my paws struck the ground, I was faster than the fleeing wolf could manage.
They had nearly reached the ward line when I caught up.
I cut across their path, forcing them to turn away from the boundary. They stumbled on loose earth and fell hard onto one knee.
I planted myself between them and the wards, baring my teeth.
“Don’t move,” I growled.
The suspect froze. Their own wolf stirred beneath their skin, but they didn’t shift.
Their breathing came in short bursts as they looked from me to the boundary behind me.

shifted back, ignoring the dirt on my clothes and the ache in my shoulders.
“Why are you running?”
“I wasn’t running from you.”
“You were running toward a ward line with no permission to leave. What would you call it?”

They pushed themselves upright. “I need to get away. You don’t understand what you’ve involved urself in.”
“Then explain it.”
“They know I’ve spoken to you. If I stay here, they’ll come for me.”
“Who will?”
They shook their head and tried to move around me.
I caught their arm and pulled them back before they could reach the trees. They struggled, twisting hard enough to force me to tighten my grip.
“Let go of me!”
“Stop fighting.”
“You can’t protect me from them!”
“Then tell me who I’m supposed to be protecting you from.”
Their voice cracked. “You think this is about an old healer and some missing papers? Those records were hidden for a reason. People have spent years making sure nobody found out what happened to those children.”
My grip loosened slightly.
“What children?”
They looked at me, breathing hard. Their fear was no longer limited to the thought of being caught. They were afraid of what might happen if they said too much.
“The two vessels,” they whispered. “Your mate’s sister wasn’t supposed to survive outside their control.”
Before I could ask another question, one of the warriors reached us. He stopped a few paces away, keeping his distance from the suspect.
“Alpha, the patrol has secured the road. No one else was seen nearby.”
“Search the vehicle and check the surrounding area,” I ordered. “Don’t touch anything that looks like a document or device until Rhys can examine it.”
