Drake’s hand trembled as he accepted the necklace: 

“How…how is this possible?” 

Amber moved closer, taking his hand with a pitiful expression: 

“Drake, since Violet herself broke off the engagement, you don’t need to feel obligated to that 

Childhood arrangement anymore. Besides, there’s more than one Parker daughter.” 

“And didn’t you promise me before? You said as long as I wasn’t married, you’d never be with Violet. Now that Violet has chosen to step aside, maybe she wants us to be happy together…” 

“No!” 

Before she could finish, Drake jerked his hand away. 

Realizing his movement was too harsh, he noticed Amber had already begun softly crying: 

“Doesn’t Drake like me anymore?” 

Drake quickly tried to comfort her: 

“That’s not what I meant.” 

“It’s just that I promised Violet if she agreed to take your place at the Blackwoods, I would marry her.” “But now she’s the one who doesn’t want to marry you!” 

Amber seized the opportunity to throw herself into Drake’s arms. “She even threatened us with the Blackwood situation, saying if we didn’t agree to cancel the engagement, she wouldn’t go to the Blackwoods. Ethan knows all about this!” 

She shot a meaningful glance at Ethan in his hospital bed. 

“Are you saying the Parker family has already agreed to the broken engagement?” 

Drake’s pupils dilated with disbelief. 

Amber approached Ethan’s bedside with her usual innocent smile, but her whispered words were chillingly unfamiliar: 

“Brother, you know how much I like Drake. If you ruin this for me, I’ll make sure Dad punishes you severely.” 

She pointedly looked at Ethan’s still-reddened eyes: 

“You wouldn’t want to completely lose your eyesight, would you?” 

Ethan suddenly felt a chill run down his spine. 

He’d never imagined the sister he’d loved for so many years could say such things. 

But Amber quickly switched personas: 

“I’m just kidding! Don’t be so tense. I know you’ll help me, right?” 

Ethan finally came to his senses, feeling like he’d just woken from a nightmare. 

Drake was already in his face, his entire expression trembling with anger: 

“Ethan, tell me the truth. Has your family really agreed to break the engagement?” 

With my mother still unconscious and considering how thoroughly our father spoiled Amber, he would certainly agree to end my engagement with Drake. 

So Ethan nodded. 

Seeing this, Amber smiled with satisfaction, swinging Drake’s arm playfully: 

“Drake, you heard him. You no longer have to force yourself to be with Violet because of some arrangement made by our parents.” 

She lowered her head shyly: 

“Drake, since that’s the case, why don’t we set our own engagement before I go abroad to study with Master Montgomery?” 

Drake was completely lost in his thoughts, not even hearing what Amber was saying. He just kept stroking the necklace, muttering: 

“How could this happen? How? Violet always wanted to marry me. I was the only one she wanted to marry!” 

After Drake and Amber left, Ethan immediately left his hospital bed. 

Despite the stabbing pain in his chest from his broken ribs, he couldn’t waste a minute. He 

immediately called for a driver to take him to the Blackwood estate. 

On the way, Ethan imagined many scenarios of our reunion. He also considered what to do if the Blackwoods refused to release me. He even thought I might be badly hurt from their punishment, so he planned to arrange medical care-he was determined not to let his sister suffer permanent disability like twelve years ago. 

But he never imagined he wouldn’t even be able to get through the Blackwood gates. 

Somehow, as soon as the guards heard he was Ethan Parker, they pulled out their batons, threatening him: 

“Our young mistress said if any Parker has the nerve to show up, we beat them. One comes, we beat one. Two come, we beat both. Even if we kill you, she’ll cover the funeral costs!” 

Ethan was driven away with blows raining down. If not for his driver shielding him, he might have broken even more ribs. 

Ethan was furious but understood that not just him-even if our parents came personally, they 

couldn’t get in unless the Blackwoods willingly opened their doors. 

At that moment, he thought of someone who might help, and immediately made a call.
