Ethan found Drake in a bar.
He had expected Drake to be with Amber, but instead found him alone at the counter, completely wasted. His usual handsome, sophisticated image was gone-he looked like a drowned dog. constantly calling out:
Wolet, Violet…”
Ethan had witnessed many times how Drake had made me cry secretly because of Amber.
Back then, Ethan’s heart had been fully on Amber’s side. He had even repeatedly encouraged me to break off the engagement to allow Drake and Amber to be together.
At the time, he truly believed Drake loved Amber and was only with me because of our families’ arrangement.
But now, seeing Drake in such a pathetic state yet still calling my name, Ethan’s anger flared. He asked the bartender for a glass of ice water and threw it in Drake’s face.
The cold shock temporarily cleared Drake’s mind, allowing Ethan to sit down and talk with him properly.
“Who do you actually love-Violet or Amber?”
Ethan’s blunt question left Drake unable to give a clear answer.
“If you love Amber, then this is the perfect outcome. You can break your engagement with Violet and get engaged to Amber. If you-”
“I will not break my engagement with Violet! I promised to marry her.”
This made Ethan even angrier:
“If you know you want to marry Violet, why have you been so ambiguous with Amber? What do you think our family is?”
Drake clutched his hair in agony:
“I don’t know… Before, I truly loved Violet the most. Back then, she was abandoned by you all in Vermont, with only me keeping her company. She depended on me completely… At that time, I genuinely wanted to marry her!”
“But later, after meeting Amber, I discovered that Violet had only been interested in my family status and the Sullivan fortune all along…”
“What did you say?”
Ethan suddenly interrupted Drake. “How could Violet be that kind of person?”
Drake looked up, confusion in his eyes:
“I found it strange when she was in Vermont. Parker family tradition is that children get their own bank account after their first birthday with regular deposits-certainly enough for a child to live on. But Violet was always extremely frugal. If I hadn’t visited regularly bringing food, she would have struggled to survive.”
“I did ask her where the money went. But Violet always said she had no money. How could that be? Even if it wasn’t much, how could she be so poor she couldn’t even afford food?”
“It was only later that Amber told me Violet claimed to have no money to gain my sympathy. She feared being out of favor with the Parker family and worried the Sullivans might cancel our engagement, so she pretended to be pitiful in front of me.”
“I never imagined that at just eight years old, Violet could be so calculating and manipulative. Her wanting to marry me was just to escape the Parker family and live a more comfortable life, wasn’t it?”
