Chapter 6
By the time Damian and the others reached Frostland’s pack transfer office inside Blood Moon territory, the transfer vehicle had already been gone for three hours.
After verifying Damian’s identity, the staff member looked up.
“What is your relationship to Researcher Aria Vale?”
“I’m her future mate.”
The staff member checked the file, then answered calmly.
“Researcher Vale has no registered mate and has never accepted an official mate mark. Your name is not on her authorization list.”
Damian’s expression stiffened.
“There was a misunderstanding between us. I only need to know where she was taken.”
“Researcher Vale has already completed her pack transfer. You belong to Blood Moon Pack. She now belongs to the Northern Pack. You have no authority to access her location.”
Rowan stepped forward.
“We grew up with her. We even shared childhood mental bonds. You should at least let us confirm that she’s safe.”
“Frostland is responsible for the safety of all classified-program researchers.”
“When can we contact her?”
“Once the classified period ends, whether contact is restored will be Researcher Vale’s decision.”
Asher’s brows drew together.
“We can’t see her even once in five years?”
“Not unless she personally submits a visitation request. Private letters and personal items cannot be forwarded without her authorization either.”
Julian tried another approach.
“We’re not asking for her exact location. We only want a few minutes to speak to her before she enters the research facility.”
The staff member closed the file.
“The transfer vehicle has already entered Frostland’s classified inter-pack transfer route. Outside parties cannot track, intercept, or approach it.”
He paused.
“More importantly, before departure, Researcher Vale explicitly declined to provide any contact access to

Damian’s fingers tightened.
“Did she leave any message?”
“That was part of her private application. We are not authorized to disclose it.”
For the first time, the staff member looked at the four of them with something close to confusion.
“If you truly grew up with her, you should have known she was entering the program today.”
“And you should have known she didn’t sign an ordinary academy application.”
All four of them fell silent.
The day before, they had stormed into my bedroom.
They had searched my closet and desk.
They had seen the contract bearing Frostland Academy’s crest.
And not one of them had bothered to read what was actually written inside.
Even after they left the transfer office, Damian refused to give up.
“I’ll go to my father. If Blood Moon’s Alpha formally challenges Frostland, they’ll have to respond.”
Julian stopped walking.
“On what grounds?”
“She signed the contract because she was deceived.”
“We were the ones who deceived her.”
Julian looked at him.
His voice wasn’t loud.
“The contract is valid. The signature is hers.”
“Frostland never forced her to sign anything.”
“We were the ones who used four fake applications and a promise of a mate mark to push her into making that choice.”
Damian had no answer.
Even if the Alpha himself stepped in, he couldn’t overturn my pack transfer on the grounds of deception.
Because Frostland had never deceived me.
They had.

Lyra followed a few steps behind them, still wearing the moonstone pendant around her neck.
The five wolf pups carved into the stone knocked softly against one another as she walked.
Four were black.
The silver wolf at the edge-the one that had always represented me–had been half-covered in white paint.
Julian noticed almost immediately.
“What happened to the pendant?”
Lyra instinctively covered it with her hand.
“I just thought it looked strange having four dark wolves and one silver one.”
“So last night, I tried painting it white.”
Asher reached over, took the pendant from her neck, and turned it over.
Beneath each of the five wolf pups was the initial of the person it represented.
Under the silver wolf, the letter that had once marked my name had been half-scraped away.
