Chapter 2
Our double wedding was held soon after.
At the ceremony, Caleb was constantly attentive to Ava, adjusting her veil, smoothing her gown.
Mason, meanwhile, wore a scowl the entire time, barely glancing at me, as if he just wanted the
whole charade to be over.
Seeing me ignored, Ava grew even more smug. She pulled Caleb over to parade in front of me.
“Chole,” she simpered, “In a werewolf clan, if you can’t even keep your husband happy, you’re not
going to last long.”
I glanced at Caleb beside her. He gazed at her with feigned devotion, and my eyes zeroed in on the
silver signet ring on his thumb.
I instinctively took a step back, a chill running down my spine.
Forcing myself to stay calm, I managed a thin smile. “Don’t worry about me, Ava. I know what I’m doing.”
With that, I turned and walked away. Even though it was a lifetime ago, my body still trembled at
the memory.
My sister thought she’d found her safe harbor. Little did she know.
Given the choice between Caleb’s deceptive gentleness and Mason’s honest brutality, I’d take
Mason any day.
This time, she’d granted my wish.
That night, I changed early into a crimson silk robe.
Mason was already leaning against the headboard, eyes closed, his sleek black tail resting idly on the sheets, twitching slightly.
A wolf’s tail is its most sensitive spot. You don’t let just anyone touch it.
I gathered my courage and approached. My fingers had barely brushed the fur when he shoved me
hard onto the floor.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” he growled, his brow furrowed, anger simmering in his
voice.

“Mason… it’s our wedding night,” I said softly, feigning shyness.
Inside, I was cursing him out. I’m being this forward, and you’re still giving me attitude?
“So what?” he snarled. His large hand shot out and clamped around my throat, his brown eyes locking onto mine with predatory intensity. “Let’s get one thing straight. I’m not interested. You wanna keep breathing? Stay out of my way.”
His grip tightened. I gasped, my face flushing. I’d heard about his temper. Everyone in the clan knew, Mason Greyfang was notoriously volatile, with a reputation for violence.
Last time, if Ava hadn’t been his official mate, he probably would have killed her outright.
I swallowed hard, fear clawing at me. No. I couldn’t give up. I’d suffered enough in my last life,
“Okay… okay,” I choked out. “I won’t bother you.”
Only then did he release me, letting me slump to the floor.
I coughed violently, gulping in the air. Seeing his irritated expression, I scrambled into the bathroom to muffle the sound.
